Polk sda 1b replacement midbass 6509
How are the polk replacement drivers For the 6509? Any body here try the RD 6528-1 replacement. How do they Compared to originals? I have a pair of sda 1b's with a couple of shifted magnets by the way. Do they look the same? Sound the same?
Thanks in advance for any replies. Just want to make sure before I pull the trigger on these. I might try to fix the originals regardless. Yes I've investigated the threads regarding repair. Picked up these sda 1bs at goodwill always wanted to try a pair. The price was right.......$10.00

keep an eye on ebay they pop up often. I'd epoxy all the magnets before you lose more.

Current Production Drivers - Vintage Support

These are the only drivers, aside from the RD tweeters, being manufactured to support vintage products, such as, Monitor, RTA and SDA. You should print this as a reference and keep it handy for the values it contains. There are no grill parts, cables, crossovers, plates or anything else available for the older loudspeakers, unless you know the Polk G O D.

1 Driver Type Q BL Compliance DC Resistance Fs

    3 MW 6501 1.47 5.96 N 3.25 E - 3N/M 7.75 Ohms 31 Hertz

Yes they sound the same. The only difference is you see the voice coil leads on the old by the dust cap. The new will cover those so the dust cover is slightly bigger other than that I have used both 6501 new and old sound the same to my ears. Many have been happy with them. Get a new one and keep eyes open on eBay, BUT you could end up in the same boat IF they get banged around in shipping. I have asked the sellers to pack really well and tape the snot out of the magnet to keep from shifting but in reality its just luck in the end....

What kind of Goodwills do you have?
If I even found a pair and then for $40 I would totally freak.
They look the same except the voice coil wires don't show.
Club Polk $48 each free shipping last time I checked

No kidding!!! the only thing I have found in our local GW are tons and tons of Christmas albums by "you name it" most 50yrs old if a day and SMELL like a filthy moldy basement hurts my nose just standing close to them. Only audio stuff I've ever seen was top of the line goldstar VCR's and 35yr old TV's about the size of 9".....ours must totally suck

Ok thank you, very helpful. I will order the replacements. I still wish I could salvage the original 1987 marked woofers.... Way hard to get the voice coil gap perfect. I commend anybody who has been able to salvage these. If anybody is interested in the old drivers let me know.

Time to pull out the jb weld ok don't lose any more drivers. Btw the stupid lady at good will insisted on carrying one to the counter and dropped it....... It hurts because I checked and all drivers were working before the mishap.

yes you can make a jig to re-align. Some here have done it BUT with drivers still available from Polk and with them showing up on eBay often you have to ask if making the jig and your time are worth the effort to still have a driver that might be worse off than new. Your call
Go out to google and you will get :

any strong metal epoxy will work better than nothing some have used the putty that you meld together with your hands then apply to magnet and walla

Yea I agree with you on that I've seen the jig and how it's done. I just don't think I would do it, the margin for error is very small and time consuming. I might just order the rdo 194 at the same time and do the crossovers while I'm waiting.

Not to mention when new the magnet is not magnetized until AFTER it is attached to the basket...So I have always wondered if the "flux" of the magnet will now be different when re-attached....Things that make you go HMMMM:) After all you do now have two opposing magnets you need to get right Ever tried to glue two magnets to opposing ends?

It's not easy almost imposible I fact to get it right. Things shift and change not to mention me banging on it with the hammer to try and get it centered.... Possible to change the magnetic field. New drivers are the way to go it seems 48 bucks just gotta break them in slow. I'll keep my eye out for the vintage ones on the bay though. I like to keep the grills off and would like them to look the same.
