My husband says this was a great find (what is it about men and their love of speakers??)... We have spring cleaning in our town and these were on the curb out for the trash. I don't know much about speakers... Ok I don't really know ANYTHING about any audio stuff. My husband hooked them up and they both work beautifully. What do you guys think?

I paid $250 for a used set like those!

Welcome to Club Polk. You did GOOD! If you look at some recent posts you'll see that these "classic" Polk speakers can be listed for anywhere from $100-200 (200 being too high).

The Monitor 7s and 10s were what got Polk off the ground. They are very nice speakers. Worth keeping and restoring. You should check the two mid-drivers above the passive radiator to make sure they're operable and that you have a good seal.

Gently press in the PR speaker below and see if the mids move forward freely, then release and see if the mids take a couple of seconds or so to return to their original position. If so, you're OK there.

Eventually you may want someone to redo the crossover, update it because the caps start to go bad after a while and can affect the sound.

You also have the SL2000 tweeter which Polk has a replacement for (RD-0194) if you feel it's a little too bright or harsh up top.

Otherwise, ENJOY. Because they are very very nice speakers!

Thank you for the replies! :) My husband is in his glory. LOL I have been reading a few of the threads to gain more info. I'm surprised to find the speakers still have some value. I would have never guessed!

welcome to the forum. Congrats on the find. You and/or your husband should hang out here a while and learn more about your speakers and the things that you can do to them to make them even better than they already are.

yes there are and to use new tweeters you will need to resize the hole and the cut outs for the wires will be different for the SL2000. The hole for the SL1000 is oval and the hole for SL2000 is round with two 1/2" half circle cuts for the wires...

You're not missing much. They are rich for a reason and it's not spending. I work in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in NYC and believe me their garbage is just that, garbage.

New money throws good stuff out.

Old money does not. They will generally sell anything of value or donate it for the tax deduction.
