new pre for free

If you guys remember I off handed mentioned that I wasn't all that happy w/ the newer Onkyo P3150v pre that I got when my P-301 died. About a week or so ago I get a p/m from Pumpkinman (not sure if he wants name divulged) and offers me a NAD 1020A pre/amp for free. What? For free, yeah he says he remembered my rap came into this pre and offered it to me for shipping. My god I never saw generousity like this ever, I grew up in an era where "it's my football and I'm keeping it''. We p/m back and forth and the guy has some great taste in gear and we had a good laugh as he has sold some sets that I could have used. He says it's a bit rough and if I tell you there might be maybe 3 scratches on the thing and most would call it an 7/8. As for sound I'm not the guy to give a technical review but right off the bat the tone controls are way more responsive and if out of all of this I could find a fault it would be no remote and that's it. So again and of course I thanked him personally, to P-MAN thanks for the generous gift and it's in use already and for forumites who do care if you present a valid question or opinion and that one can take the heat if you deserve it..... lew

    I'm glad Lew is liking the preamp. It was given to me by a friend who was losing his apartment and needed to leave a few things behind.
    So I was more than happy to pass it on to someone who needed it more than I. As I've said before I like it here at Club Polk and think we
    should lend a hand to our fellow audio enthusiasts whenever it's possible.
