With so many choices out there (new and used) I found a pair of Classic 20's in real nice shape. Are these leaps and bounds ahead on the LSiM 705's?? I could own these at the same price, and haven't heard either, so just asking. The seller claims the 20's listed over 5K and are still that nice, so with these choices an so many more, it is nuts. I know there are speakers out there for more money that my house cost to own, so I'm aware I'm not talking major league. Just wanting the most bang at that 1800 range said and done. Anyone??

In that price range you should audition the Magnepan 1.7 and a pair of Martin Logans.

They may not be for you, but anyone looking at speakers in that price range needs to listen to a pair before they make a speaker purchase. They have a very distinct sound and you may not like it, or it could turn your audio world upside down and completely change your frame of reference for speakers forever.

Man, talk about choices beyond what I ever thought was out there on the pre owned market. Surprised that my local high end Audio store (less than a 1/2 mile from me didn't have a favorable take on the LSiM 705's but when I asked the guy if he ever heard them, he said 'No" so I can't run with that. He just said, (like so many are saying) spending 1700 for a pre owned high end towers is by far spending that for a new set of Polk 705's . I am not able to put my ears on any of these high end pre owned towers, nor am I going to be able to hear the 705's until I get them. I do know I love the look of the 705's. but now I see a new set of Thiel SCS4T, and a used set of Wharfedales that look minty (trouble there is that they kind of remind me of the older klipsch, thinking they may need or sound best with a tube amp?? I hope talking about all these other brands isn't upsetting anyone here??

    Why would it ?

If you notice, many here use brands other than Polk. The speaker world is full of brands for every taste. Trick is picking a brand with a sound signature that you like and then upgrading the electronics to bring out their very best. Most don't realize what their speakers are capable of because not enough attention is granted to the electronics or even cables before kicking them to the curb in favor of another brand.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420
    lsi 9's

I knew two people that owned Audio Physic speakers and absolutely loved and they were both named Mike.

So if your first name is Mike I'd say go for it.
