Oppo 103: Q regarding active speakers

Hi all,

I'm looking at using an Oppo 103 with active monitors for a bedroom system to have a 3.0 or possibly a 3.1 system. I've read conflicting reports about the 103 having a slight buzz when doing so. Has anyone in this forum tried it and what did you find?

I'm trying to make the system as simple as possible and would like to eliminate the HT receiver.

Thanks,

Bryan

Hi, I'm curious. What is the 103 going to? Directly to your speakers? If so, is it via RCA or do the speakers have HDMI? You probably know this already, but with the 103, you can run dual HDMI out (one for video and one for audio). So you may want to try that if you do get some hum. I'm running my 103 this way with one HDMI going to AVR and the other going directly to TV (bypassing the AVR's video processing) and do not have any hum or buzz. Unfortunately, I can't comment on experience with hooking the 103 directly to powered speakers. But I'll be watching this thread. I'm interested in how it well it would work.
