Idea for eliminating spam

I had a question that I wanted to ask on the Steve Hoffman forums, but I wasn't a member there so I just joined. Typical registration process, you give them your email address, they shoot you a confirmation email, then account is created.

But after I've joined, my first three posts go into a moderator approval queue before they become visible to others in the forum. A person can't post publicly until the first three posts have been vetted by a mod.

Could we do something like this here? Do we have enough mods with enough time to do this?
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Sounds like a good idea if the mods are willing. Prob take no more time than having to delete all the spammers accounts.

As much as it annoys us, it's easier to delete spam posts on the back end than it is to verify all new users. That doesn't mean it's better, just easier...

There's more that just a few guys out there spamming. It basically take them no time at all and even if one sucker bites it's probably worth their time.

One word and Spam is all but 99% gone for vBulletin. Problem is, Polk HQ or the mods here don't seem to care. So if they don't care, I don't care. We are at a point now (elsewhere) to where two spammers might get through in a two or three week period and the workload on the mods/admin has dropped to about a 1/4 of what it used to be.

    It is what it is.
