DVD Player > Dish Box > TV - Help?

TheKid received a DVD player for Xmas. Her TV is also the current recipient of the Dish Network receiver.
I cannot figure out how to hood up the fraggin' DVD player to the receiver.
The DVD player came with the red/white/yellow plugs and I plugged them into video out in the DVD player / into the red/white/yellow spaces in the receiver.

Ain't working.

I called Memorex (DVD mfr) - closed. Absolutely NO support online.
I called Dish Network - they referred me to Memorex.

The TV does not have the red/white/yellow plug ins, only the coaxial cable plug in, which is being used by the receiver.

On the living room TV, which does *not* have a receiver, all we need to do is press the TV/Video button on the remote and we're good to go.

I'm confused, she's irritated. Help? Someone?

    Hello,
Welcome to Polk's forum. On the satellite receiver what are the connections labelled that you've connected the DVD player?

This would normally be done by connecting to a different set of inputs on the TV but it sounds like you have an older set that does not have AV inputs. I have never seen a satellite box that had video inputs.

If the TV only has "coax" input and no others you're not hooking that DVD player to it without an A-B switch I'm afraid. Even then it may just be a headache. I have the top of the line dish box and I have no way of passing through signals.

I have to say that these kind of posts really confuse me. The guy has a memorex dvd player, a dish receiver, an old CRT with no AV connections, and does not mention any audio equipment, and he came to the POlk audio forum asking for advice on this particular setup??? I mean why not DBStalk or AVSforum? I mean did he google help with connecting dvd player and this forum was the first hit?

I am honestly surprised that his dish box has a coaxial out. DTV got rid of those years ago...

So basically something like this is the answer I suppose: http://www.amazon.com/RCA-Compact-RF-Modulator-CRF907R/dp/B0014KKV7W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403706410&sr=8-1&keywords=av+modulator

This allows you to connect your dish receiver on one side, the dvd player on the other, and run the single coax out to the TV. Pretty cheap to boot...

I had to have something like that for my AVR that only had 1 optical input and 1 coax input to switch optical to coax. They work as intended.
