Hello again i have been using the sony ta-9000es pre/pro for years have 3 of them they really are all about sound there so many ways to configure the sound to your taste. All the gear today has no flexibility! Most gear today just dosen't impress me unless you get above 4000$ nad , anthem, classe. Any opinions on the sony ta-es9000 pre/pro?

You can get great sound from ht pre's under 2k if you use the right amp.

I have one I don't use since a year (I have to repair the power board as SONY explain)... he sound good but "dry" and "tinny" totally the opposite to my 2 SHERWOOD NEWCASTLE P-965 witch sound "FULL, big" (like you have 3 pair of L.R. speakers in the front). The SONY sound SONY, the sound is ultra-clear like my SHERWOOD, but if you have small speaker, don't expect your speaker sound like 5' tall one... "DRY" ultra detailed sound, it's the best word I found but it's a very good preamp (with SCHARK processor like the pre-amp section in the enormous DA9000ES)............ Me, I prefer my warm sound of my SHERWOOD!!!!!!!!.....SONY is under-rated by audiophile and the STR-DA5800ES is the best receiver (Nb-1)in British HOME-CINEMA magazine.

I have one. I've only used it in 2 ch., paired with a couple different amps; Carver M4.0t, Adcom 555II, and several speakers; JBL L112's, OLA's, KLH Five's. I found it to be quite good across the board, although I am looking to sell it.
