I have an older Pioneer Elite VSX 72 from circa 2006 that I am finally gonna to relegate to backup status. Although the unit has never failed me, it's time. Only 2 HDMI inputs that only output at 720p and none of the newer lossless codecs are on that pioneer.

I snagged a used Elite VSX 53 on Ebay, but there is no remote or setup mic. I'm not really worried about the remote since I have a Harmony, but can I assume the mic from the 72 will still work on the newer Elite?

It will be nice utilizing HDMI switching...changing sources even with a programmed Harmony remote can be annoying without it.

    old mic worked fine.

Wow the sound is so much louder than my older Elite. I would regularly be in the low 20's to mid teens on the volume knob with my VSX 72. With the new one, that is WAYY too loud. Also Blurays with the lossless sound are VERY loud!

The girlfriend even mentioned how awesome the sound is..she was wondering why we needed a new receiver (it looks the same!). Then she saw me putting 6 or 7 extra cables away because they are no longer needed. And the Harmony remote actually ALWAYS works when you change sources.

Damn..there are some ridiculous deals on used gear nowadays! I spent less than 1/3 of the original price on a 2 year old receiver!
