I know this movie has been out for a few years now. Some of the movie critics didn't like it. eff em.. what do they know anyways about movie making.

I watched Pearl Harbor today by myself... and cranked it. Yes the movie is long.. (two discs) but, it's such a great movie. I love it on several different levels.

First, it's based on fact. It's a movie, not a documentary.

Secondly, the fight scenes are some of the most reaslistic I've seen in a long time. The flying P-40's are wonderful scenes they way they were photographed. It seems to me.. and i'm no history or plane buff.. but to me anyway.. it seems like they really paid attention to the small details, to make sure it was as accurate as possible.

Thirdly, the cast was top notch. Jon Voight as FDR was excellent. Tom Sizemore.. the guys in EVERY war movie of late that I know of. He's great though. I really liked the friendship between Capt. Rafe McCawley (Ben Affleck) and Capt. Danny Walker (Josh Hartnett). Both were really good in this movie.

Do any of you all think this is a must see again movie like me? The dog fights in the air.. were what really kept my interest. BUt the movie is so much more than that too.

your thoughts on it please.

Its a Hollywood movie, with a few actual events thrown in for color.

It is real entertaining, but nothing else. I do agree that the fighter plane work, specifically the motor roar was pretty cool....reminds me of G. Gordon Liddy playing the Messerschmidt song on his talk radio show.....nothing like an old school prop.

Good flick - a fine effort with a good mix of historical and story.

The battle scenes were just super - PQ, SQ and special effects all first rate.

I don't know why this movie gets panned so much - it's really pretty decent.

Agreed! It is very entertaining and a great quality movie. If historically it's not completely accurate, so be it.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I'll agree that the battle scenes were incredible, but I think the love story (I like to call it "romantic ****" :) ) could have been severely cut down or perhaps totally eliminated, but that's just the anti-chick flick in me. Pacing was awful in my opinion. On the other hand, if it had the romantic **** along with the action/adventure/historical significance and pacing in the same manner as Titanic (with a running time of 10 minutes longer than PH), well then, perhaps that would be a different story!

I though as a movie it was pretty lousy. However, its a good demo for SQ and PQ, and my fiance likes it, so, it got purchased.

I just keep waiting for war movies to realize that there is no need for a love story thown in. War, it turns out, is dramatic enough! Check out Saving Private Ryan, kept me rivited, and no love story. u-571 is another great war movie with no cheesy love story. That's my 2 cents anyway.
