Hello all,

I am new to the audiophile realm and am wanting to add to my current set up.. I have two DB Plus 1010 tower speakers ( 25Hz-22KHz +/-3db, 100db efficency 1W/1m 150W/max at 8ohm) would these pair well with a set of 2 RTIA3's?

    Welcome to Club Polk!

What exactly do you mean by pairing? Are you trying to build a HTheater? because if you are almost "any" speakers can be used for surrounds. The problem would be your CENTER. The DB Pluses have a Polycell hard foam tweeter that was very popular in the late '80s early '90s but almost no one uses it today. I remember Infinity using it back then and maybe Cerwin Vega, etc.

That tweeter WILL be tough to match, not sure what would sound good with it. It's not really a cloth dome, it's not a treated dome, it's not a metal dome and it's not a polycarbonate dome (which pretty much covers most presently available domes).

You might have to look for something from that era for a center to timbre match. But as far as speakers other than your center, that timbre matching is Less important and you could use some Polk speakers back there.

I have an old set of Db 440 bookshelves I bought back in '90 in NYC so I'm familiar with those tweeters. They're not bad but they are unique. The hype back then was that the foam polycell was made with thousands and thousands of micro-air bubbles inside providing a new level of rigidity and quickness (so much for the advertising hype!).

The best of the Db lot in my opinion were the Db 880s (large 10" two way bookshelf type). The higher models tended to get a bit muddy with the lows, and the mids were not as clean either but they could put out some bass because they were BIG!

    Good Luck!
