15 time all star, 8 time nl batting champ had been battling mouth cancer which he said was brought on by smokeless tobacco.

I lived in San Diego from 1982-2006. We were huge Padre fans and Tony was everyone's favorite player. I saw him play so many times got his autograph several times. I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't even know he was sick. I am just floored that he is dead at 54.
