How accurate are on-line auto insurance quotes?

Been toying with the idea of shopping/comparing auto insurance - we have two boys that are now licensed and the bill has bumped up considerably (good thing they both got the good student discounts).
How accurate have people found the on-line auto insurance quotes to what you actually paid if you switched?
I'm just concerned that we'll get the 'oh, well, those are just estimates, for your situation the cost is really more'.

Since most of them allow you to purchase/print a card, I'd say they are spot-on. I know Progressive is.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Geico is too. I use them and my company truck is through progressive. When they give you a quote call them and confirm all the details. they are both very helpful. I'm about to add my twin boys and iirc the ins will get doubled.HT/2Channel: Emotiva MMC-1, Adcom GFA-555II, Polk SDA 3.1's, Teac TN-300 TT, Polk Center and Sub.

I'd call around to the local agents and get quotes. It's nice to have an agent that you can go to and have some sort of relationship with in the case of an 'event'.

They are as accurate as the info you give them.

It may be good to bundle as well, home, auto, life....We get a supposed discount on that...Another good policy to get is an umbrella policy to cover what the regular policy does not.....A good example here is take a look at medical expenses incurred by others for an event on your property....Mine says 5k, holy cow that can get eaten up quick....good to have an umbrella policy for such an event.,...A one million dollar policy is a tick over 100 bucks a year....cheap too...good luck...Onkyo TX-NR636

My lil' bro works for progressive. They figure, "If you have to call for a quote, you prolly ain't worth insuring". And give a suitable quote, (about Twice what you'd normally pay). Always look at the BIG companies... Farmers, Allstate, Farm Bureau, American Family, State Farm, etc. They'll actually "compete" for your business, if it's worth having. Regardless of your driving record, teenage drivers are ALWAYS gonna raise your premium, even with the good student discounts. On the bright side, your kids probably saved you a few hundred dollars a year!Home Theater- 5.1/DTS bliss-- Source: Sony BDP-S790; Pre/Pro: Golden Theater GTX-1; Amplifiers: Golden Theater GTA-1; Speakers: Main: RTi6's, Center: RTi6's, Surround: RTi12's, Sub: KSW-12Video: RCA Scenium rear projection 52" @ 1080i.

Every time I have shopped mine around the local agents were always a little better. You have to be real careful that the coverage comparisons are exact. The online quotes will be for lesser quality coverage if you are not diligent.Main-Carver TFM35(2),Carver C11 ,Carver SD/A 360 CD,Carver TX11 ,Grace Digital Tuner, Pioneer PL707 TT,Polk SDA1C
