As previously hinted, I have a pair of Magnepan 1.6QR for sale in the DFW area. They are all black and are in great condition, they had new glue and socks put on last year so should be good to go for a long time. A few of you have heard these at my place, and lots of people heard them at LSAF this year. They're not for everybody, but what they do well they do VERY well. If the majority of your music collection is poorly recorded or in a compressed format, or if you have subpar gear upstream then look elsewhere - these speakers will reveal any weaknesses in your system or the source material as they are very revealing. But if you've got good gear and listen primarily to acoustic / jazz / blues / country or other music that tends to be well recorded then you can't do better than these for the price.

The short version of the story with these is that I picked them up on an impulse last year and fell in love with them, and posted about it here. I went a whole year without making any changes to the system (a long time for me), but we're redoing our living room and we both wanted something a bit less 'large' in there and something that blends in with the environment more, so these are for sale. I'll own Maggies again someday, at some point we'll move to a bigger place and I'll get my 2 channel room again and I'll probably take that opportunity to move even further up the Magnepan chain. For now though, it's time to simplify and let someone else enjoy these.

These are fully stock and not modded in any way. There is one small issue to bring up, it's not really a problem so much as a design flaw with the binding posts on these speakers. The posts seem to be slightly larger than normal, so some banana plugs don't work well in these. The BFAs that Audioquest uses on their cables, for example, don't work well in these, they don't make a good tight connection. These binding posts also don't support spades without an adapter that you can buy (from Magnepan I believe). To be safe, I'd say you have two reliable methods of connection: bare speaker wire or locking banana plugs. I've used locking banana plugs in these with great results.

Shipping is not even remotely an option, so these are local to the DFW area. In my opinion these speakers are still worth $1500 or more, even in today's market with the other options out there. However the market doesn't agree with me so I'm pricing these right where they should be and applying the usual Club Polk discount. Don't be fooled though, these are NOT cheap speakers.

$800 for Local Sale in DFW

I have a couple photos I took right after the re-glue, the areas in the photo where you can see the glue are much less pronounced now. I'll list elsewhere in a day or two, wanted to give first crack to this community.

Excellent price for a non-modded version. Some Texan is going to get a deal!

There's nothing on the planet that can produce the sound you get from 1.6's for $800. I am surprised magnepan never bumped the price of the 1.7's up to $2500 as the 1.6's have been priced at $1500/$1600 for a long time. You dont need luck with the sale!!

I have these listed on CraigsList as well for a bit more, Polkie discount is still up for grabs until they're gone.

I've had a change in heart over the last couple days and have decided to keep these. There's actually a story to be told here that I'll get to at some point, but the pertinent info here is that they are no longer for sale.
