Well THANKS to Agfrost i was able to get my PL-630 turntable up n running (i lost a foot so special thank you sir. Id like to change out the needle & could use some assistance . Pickering XUX needle. I looked online & cheap ones for under 20.00 . Wallet is tight but that kinda cheap ? Im not good with TT. I have a guy coming to look at a pair of monitor4's speakers & offered a Shure V15 for trade. Then all of a sudden he then said it cost way more than your speakers & wanted to know what else i had to sweeten the deal for him. I told him the price of the speakers is XXXX & i dont do trades. So am i better off with the Pickering or is the (suppose to be new the guy has)Shure better ? He said he would bring it anyways.. He totally caught me off guard-as i have no idea ! Any advice is appreciated TIA Randy

That Shure V15 is a nice cartridge. If the needle is decent on it, I think a straight trade would not be a bad deal. He's probably right that it's actually worth more than the 4's.....if it's in very good shape. If you have to buy a needle for it immediately then no.
I know nothing of the pickering needles but for $20 pick up a needle and you would have a backup that you know will work with your table.
Try to listen to the Shure and see what you think. It should have plenty of bass, a nice warm midrange that Shure is known for. Good luck.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -
That Pickering is a very fine cart. I think getting Pickering aftermarket styli is a bit tricky, however. Turntableneedles.com has an original genuine replacement but it's well north of $200, a price that I suspect reflects not only its quality but also its rarity. Probably not for your currently tight wallet (but hold onto it even if you're not using it for now!)
The Shure is a really nice cart too. If you can part with some things you don't need for it, you'd do well to acquire it. I think it's easier and less expensive to get a stylus for it than for the Pickering. I'd be saving my pennies for a Jico SAS stylus if I had the Shure V15.
Good luck, and glad your foot found it's way to you!Jay

Thank you again ^^^^ ive got tons of gear in closets hiding from view (wife lol) so i will see what happens. I have no plans on letting the Pickering go anywhere. It has a good needle ? I just was thinking about changing it not knowing how much playtime was on it. I need to invest in a microscope/magnify glass to inspect needles better. Thanks & we will see what later today brings..

You mean you don't have an old kid's X-mas science microscope in the attic? lol
I love the microscope boys on certain forums. Maybe I'm a cretin but if I can't hear it, it's still good! But hey, I'm cheap? And almost any GOOD needle is $30 or a LOT more! Then you have the guys who play two or three dozen albums and it's time for a new stylus. At our age can we really hear that? NO!
ON another note. I hate those guys who commit then decide they're not getting the "best" deal. It's used equipment "dude", a hobby. Not some business transaction that's going to PAD your retirement account. lol
Those Pioneers are nice. One of my relatives in Europe had one of those he bought at an American PX when he was stationed in Italy with NATO forces for three years.
Enjoy!

Yes sir Cnh. Im going to keep using the Pickering XUV with D4500Q stylus on it. I wasnt sure the amount of time on it & didnt know what stylus it was till further more playing with it. Just got home from work & hope the guy comes with the Shure. He said it was new in package. So i might trade off some unwanted items...
