Hi, I have a pair of Polk 5 jr's. One sounds fine the other sounds higher and lower in volume. I'm guessing the cross over is bad. If I find a replacement XO, is it worth rebuilding?

Thanks! Gary

In the vintage speaker section there's a sticky, all non SDA models.

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?38755-POLK-AUDIO-Speaker-Wiring-Schematics-amp-More-ALL-MODELS-except-SDA

Find the model you have, then compare when you open them up.

    Hope this helps

Bad caps can cause fluctuating volume?

It could also be poor connection from the binding post to the Xover, or from the Xover to the speakers. You'll need to open them up and have a look. As Old Fat Dogs mentioned, the caps are due for replacement. While you're at it I'd replace the resistors too.

Modern film caps and non-inductive resistors will make those 5Jr's sound better than they did when they were new.
