100 years from now no one will know we ever lived, or speak our name.

It has become even more obvious to me lately that many members of this club realize that the only thing that matters is how we treat each other while we are here.

god bless,

Quite true. There are many societies in the world where remembering the names of individuals who have left us not only keeps the memory of them alive but also the being him or herself in their journey between our world and the originary Ancestors and gods.

The surest way to eternal life is to give of yourself while you are here. If there be a heaven, you will be welcomed with open arms, and if not, the things you taught your children will will be passed down, sometimes for centuries. If you are lucky 300 years from now, your great, great, great, great grand children will still be doing things the way you did, and in that action you live forever, even though they don't know your name.

Think on that next time you teach your kids how to fish, or hammer a nail.

I could not have agreed more with the posts in response already.

The societys built on honoring names or people crumble quickly, those built on unselfish sharing of knowledge, and betterment, live on, well past any remembrance of who the knowledge came from.

can you think of a more worthy legacy?

people who are long removed from any memory of yourself are still benefitting from your life.

How can Regular folks like us make real steps to do the same with our lives?

    How Scotty ?

I asked myself that very question. While the advice above is good, I felt more needed to be done. So I looked at history, how did we find out about our past. If it wasn't for passed down knowledge, written text, all would be lost.

So I decided to write a book. Not for publication mind you, but for those that come after me. A daunting task, but the mission was to chronicle my life, success and failures, and the reasons why while being completely honest. Also to give a glimpse into the times, the world as it was of that time. Not only to give those that come after me some insight to their ancestry, but also to help them navigate the waters, avoid some mistakes I had made.

When we have a sense of belonging, a sense of who we are, it anchors us. Gives us a baseline to grow from. I have many relatives long gone who I looked up to, wanted to be like, and many whom I didn't. That's all locked in my memory though, lost once I'm gone.

Carry around a voice recorder, start recording your thoughts. Put pen to paper, type on the 'puter, and you'll see a book coming to life. That's the best way I know of to leave something for those after us to reference from.
