Anyone have one have or dealt with this unit shutting down after 1-2 secs,a low hum then relay click, after being turned on.
I was not having any problems till I hooked up some Realistic Minimus 7 Speakers and then it played about 20 secs and shut off.
I checked the speakers at the terminals and they read 7 ohms so I don't think they are the culprit. Maybe there is a fuse you know about?

Have you tried it with a different set of speakers? If not, try that.

It is possible that the spring clips on the Minimus 7s are not grabbing the wires as well as they should causing a gap that may lead the Onkyo to shut down because it sees a break in the line. Any number of receivers could shut down because of that.

Always make sure you connections are secure.

You could try disconnecting everything and turn the receiver on by itself. Turn the volume up and see if it will run with nothing connected.

Not sure it will make a difference but you can also reset the it to factory settings. The video I saw said to hold down the VCR button at the same time as the On/Standby button and hold it till the screen says "Clear".

Thanks cnh for the input. Jimbo I tired the reset clear,no dice :-(
it's totally unhooked nothing going to it or coming out you push power button it clicks (normally).... 2 secs... clicks off. It's the protection circuit I think so something is shorted out. I took the cover off 3 fuses I found look fine.

Not familiar with the unit...will require a service manual and measurements pre-speaker relays.

Yea you would think that it would just reset and all would be fine again but the relay keeps turning off so the protection circuit did not work. It was cheap $150 and a refurb to begin with, for the garage.

Does that Onkyo have a REMOTE speaker button? If so, have you checked to see if you may have tripped the "remote" by accident. That will also prevent you from being able to access the MAIN speakers.

This is probably not the problem, but who knows? Maybe that Onkyo HDMI board has fried something or possible short when the Minimus might not have been in good contact with the amp.

    So "reset" didn't work?

I had an Onkyo 604 that for some reason used to turn itself off occasionally when it was running off the analog inputs on the ground. Once I put it up on a shelf the problem stopped. I haven't seen that problem since I got it off the ground, and it's been years. To this day I have NO idea why it was doing that and then stopped, magically!

There are some youtube videos that show how to replace the caps in the HDMI board that may be a problem. If you can solder well, it's a reasonably cheap fix. But, again, who knows if that is the problem?

Yes there is a button for that remote speakers and I can turn it off but it still shuts down.
That ground problem is really weird.
I'm going to look at those utube video thanks.
This unit had problem with the standard/composite video out not ever working but HDMI in and out was always fine.
