I was really hesistant to post this but Trey said go for it so here's the story. First of all I was a putz in not grasping that the new modern caps and resistors would make such an obvious difference. I bothered Trey for months on end and I don't have to tell you guys that finances will factor in everything I do concerning these speakers. We finally agreed on a fairly standard x-over conversion with using my boards. I did manage to mangle some of the harnesses doing the retro work for the Neutrik fittings and he provided new harnesses to go the terminal cups and the Neutrik connector. Now the heartache, he sends them out and were supposed to be at my door Friday by Fed-EX and NEVER come. I'm freaking now knowing it's a holiday weekend and tracing this box would be impossible. Today at about 6am there's a loud knocking at my door and a Mexican woman says they dropped this off at my house but it may belong to you. It sure did. Holy sh$t an honest person and then I got to work. It baffeles my mind that a guy like Mr Polk could not devise a better way of securing the x-overs w/ these little standoffs just a bit out of reach and a freaking hassel. That of course took most of the time. I plugged in the coil leads, the harness to the drivers and to the tweeters on the other side. I did button them up before hearing them as it was still to early to play them. Finally my neighbors leave I put on Mark Knofler Sailing To Philadelphia and it was like being in the recording studio right next to the board and the monitors. I'm not one w/ the tech terms all I know it sounds way better than before by being so much clearer, the highs w/ the 194s coming through beautifully and then I put on some albums and they are wonderful. This is bliss and it all turned out ok in the end. That's it for these 2Bs I have done all I will do. Again many thanks to Trey, VR3-MODS for having to deal w/ not the brightest bulb in the box but he worked me through every process and all I can do is give a word of mouth recomendation ,it's a free country and you can if so inclined do them yourself, go w/ anybody else I went with VR-3 and have no regrets.

Knofler's Sailing to Philadelphia is incredible! Praire Wedding, El Macho, Speedway at Nazareth to name a few gems.

Congrats on the final product. I'm saving to have VR3 do my M7 and RTA 12 but it might be months away.

    Hey Lew,
It was a pleasure to be of help for you. And I am glad the shipping issue worked its way out!

Remember to crank it up and look forward to the burn in process!

    Thank you again!

No, I still like that instant gratification of ss. Also I already admitted I know nothing of biasing what tubes are what value testing tubes, it just seems to much for me. I'm way more into speakers and their design and how each and everyone sound different. I would have thin the heard but if I had a bundle of cash float in I would love a set of Vandersteen 3a sigs, Ohm/Walsh 2xo, maybe try either NHT or ADS. If I had the room I would love to get some ESS Heil AMT 1c pyramids, big footprint but a friend of mine did have them and were spectacular for the time. Lastly maybe Klipsch Forte`. Guys I saved literally for more than a year do to the x-overs because of normal bills, car failures, graduation gifts so if it takes time so be it but it's certainly worth it to extend the life of the speakers you love whatever the model.

Yet another testimony to Trey's extraordinary capability and professionalism -- not to mention exemplary customer care!

Trey and Vr3 Mods can be relied upon to do great work, at reasonable cost and to take care of the customer.

Let me guess, you left the large inductor in your speakers. There's a bolt on the back panel, you screw it and the whole works come right out.

Boy that would be big time suck LMAO if that's what happened. Kind of funny though!! Kind of remindes me of when I decided to apply dynamat to the baskets of my drivers and passive. I covered about every square inch of the baskets. What a dope I was and still am.
Thanks for the feedback on Trey and his excellent work/service.

F-1 your right and you know your speakers. this inductor was overly slathered in hot glue so I didn't even see the nut and not told in my 1st post I was working basically w one hand tied behind my back w/ a torn rotator cuff that's being scoped and repaired on Thursday. So I wanted them in before the operation, didn't know to remove the coil, and being a bit handicapped just made it that more difficult. I'll ask you this would have been so terrible to extend the coil leads and have the x-overs mounted on the cabinet floors which because of the passive cut out would a hell of a lot easier in the long term.

    Thanks guys!

I will be honest that I have been so busy it has been tough to keep up with some things lately. I am dealing with a few massive scale modifications that have bogged down the proverbial engine if you know what I mean.

    :)

    You guys rock!

    Mike,
I am real happy to hear how those are improving. I knew we had a real winner when I plugged them up! Such good sound from those 703. Maybe one day my schedule will free up to modify my 705?
