Montor 10a's- Can I use Monitor 5a crossovers as a replacement for my 10a's?

I need to replace the crossover for one of my monitor 10a's. I found a replacement set on Ebay for the Monitor 5a's. Can I use the 5a's crossovers as a replacement?

Would it make more sense to do a serious upgrade to both crossovers instead? This is my first venture into speaker modification and don't know a lot about it.

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would assume that it would not work to do that. They are different xovers all together.

IMO, you should just replace the both xovers in your monitor 10's, you will be delighted with the sound. Do some google searches on Monitor 10 crossover upgrades and it should lead you to some links to others who have done this.

Welcome to the club and let us know how it turns out!

What is wrong with the crossover when you say it needs to be replaced? If it is not cracked or otherwise broken you can have them rebuilt with new capacitors and resistors. I had my 10a crossovers rebuilt by a club member (westmassguy) and he did an excellent job. My 10a's are still one of my favorite speakers. If it is broken you would want to get another 10a crossover, not a 5a. I actually have a spare 10a crossover that I can karma to you if you need it.

As mentioned, WHY do you think you need to replace the crossover? If there is a component problem, it can be repaired/upgraded (see my article http://www.audioholics.com/diy-audio/upgrade-speaker-crossover-polk-audio). In any case, you can't swap XO's between different speaker models.
