What is the difference between 6 channel and 8 channel audio?

Do the 8 channel motherboards play music better and overall make sound better?

    5.1 surround versus 7.1 surround. It boils down to how many speakers you want to run. They can both sound or crappy just depends on the card.

    More channels do home theather effects better. As far as music goes, I'd say
