MINNEAPOLIS -- Garage sales are a uniquely robust enterprise in Minnesota during the spring and summer, the product of a hardy and unassuming people who know they'd better clear some of the clutter from their basements before the weather turns cold again.

Bud Grant is clearing out some old clutter -- which can be yours for the right price.
It's fitting, then, that one of the easiest ways to meet the state's foremost football coach -- a man who grew up on the shores of Lake Superior in Wisconsin, played in both the NBA and the NFL before coaching the Minnesota Vikings to four Super Bowl appearances -- is to walk into the yard of his Twin Cities suburban home and buy his old Vikings relics. Or a good duck decoy.

Bud Grant, who turned 87 on Tuesday, will hold his 10th and final garage sale from Wednesday to Friday at his home in Bloomington, Minn., offering fans a final chance to rummage through his artifacts. Grant, an avid outdoorsman, is selling plenty of his gently-used hunting and fishing stuff, too, but there are gems for collectors, like a signed photo from the 1950 Minneapolis Lakers NBA championship team and a piece of the hardwood on which Grant used to practice with George Mikan, Vern Mikkelsen and others.

Grant promises an autograph to anyone who spends $25 or more (no haggling allowed). The sale begins Wednesday evening and runs through Friday; at the conclusion of the sale, Grant plans to award his Vikings Ring of Honor banner from the Metrodome to the highest bidder from a silent auction.

All you Minnesota Polkies have a pilgrimage to make! My mom will be there first thing in the morning!

Wow, what a guy, to open his home to anyone and everyone for a look inside his life, and a chance to own a little bit of that also. You know Mr. Grant doesn't need the money to pay last months rent.

I might be tempted to show up 4 times during his sale and come real close to buying something only to pull up short, just to mess with his head so that he knows how all the fans felt.....
