I appreciate all the receiver recommendations, but I don't think that would work with what I am trying to do.

That is a good solution, but what I am trying to do is be able to play music on my turntable, or through the oppo in my main rig, and then just switch between which set of speakers it's coming through.

For example, we are making dinner or hanging out inside, and then go out on the deck to eat...Blamo, same music is now playing outside.

I did kind-of have this setup when I had the squeezebox setup in my main rig and a squeezebox boom that could link to it, but in order to move the boom you had to unplug it and then reset it at each different outlet.

After further digging, most of the switcher units only accept bare wire. Not sure I want to un-terminate my current main speaker cables.

A polkie did give me a recommendation on a unit with 5-ways, so I may look into that.

Thanks for all the feedback folks.

The Adcom GFS-4 is the best switcher they made. High quality switches & nothing else in the signal path. Has 5 ways posts for all connections, not those stupid twist locks or worse, spring terminals. Of course this model hasn't been made for over 20 years, but if you can find one it won't disappoint. It's the one I use for my 4 different zone2 zones.

You can Y a low level, high impedance source (ie the oppo) without any issues- you control whether the outdoor speakers are on or off by turning the receiver on/off. Or for that matter, multiple outputs on the Oppo are probably active at once- use the variable output one for the B&K and the digital (fixed) for the receiver and you'll have independent volume control on the two zones.

That makes sense. Thanks for the idea.

    Niles makes a solid unit.
almost no drop in volume when using more than one zone and they have a protection mode.

they also make switches with volume control.
