Swap my processor for a receiver?

Currently have an Onkyo PR-SC885. Good processor in the day but is lacking newer correction processing & getting pretty long in the tooth at this point. Considering swapping it for a Pioneer SC-1523K. I would continue to use my Aragon 8008x3 to drive the front sound stage but would power the rear & sides surrounds from the Pioneer instead of the Outlaw 770 I'm currently using. I haven't had a receiver in 30 years. What's the consensus? Upgrade from my Onkyo or a lateral move? Note that I do not currently have separate 2 channel rig, but will say that I have overall been happy with the Onkyo when it comes to 2 channel performance.

Nobody? Well I guess I'll find out & report back. Amazon has the 1523 for $800 so I pulled the trigger. I think my overall plan is to give this a shot & if I'm happy with the home theater performance I'll pick up a 2 channel pre with ht bypass to step up my 2 channel game.

Sounds like a good plan, lots of good preamps on the market these days with HT Bypass...
