Standard mod, you know - space age zip ties that I hand formed from recycled nasa particles, adhesives and tapes that can only be found in a government lab and you know - caps and resistors and stuff...

    They are decent caps. This was chosen to meet a certain price point.

    I prefer Clarity Cap.

    I think Sonicap would be a good middle of the road (between the Solen and the Clarity)
    Have you AB'd these in the past?

    The crossovers in your 2B pin/blade SDAs are the exact same ones as in your CRS+ SDAs. When you do them, I'd suggest going with the TL upgrade. It only requires one additional cap and you'd use the RD-0198 tweeters instead of the RD-0194s.

    Hey Guys,
    I have used Sonicap in a few modifications. As a personal preference, I am not a fan of their sound or their build quality. I prefer the cleaner high end response of the Clarity Cap line. I also like how the Clarity Cap line extends to a nicer capacitor like the MR where as Soniseries versus Sonicap with low value bypass caps at crazy prices. Which I think we can all agree that the bypass caps are no good.

    This was a modification to meet a certain price point. A top tier 2BTL modification, ESA, Mundorf Mox, Jantzen inductors, EW circuit boards, new binding post plate, new binding post, new SDA cable with nl4 is around $6-700 and that would be a TL upgrade. That is a full rebuild though and we would not need the stock crossovers.

    There are many things we can do though at any price point. Our most expensive modification at this point has gone up to $10,000 so the world is your oyster.

    This modification runs around the $160 range. Just a budget modification that is short and sweet.

    Thanks for the clarification, I imagine bypassing changes the impedance of the circuit for the worst.....

    It has been proven that bypass capacitors will introduce artifacts.

    To me there are many great brands/types out there that are a better choice than Sonicap. Sonicap is a very popular choice though and they are a respectable choice for modifications.

    Clarity Cap MR
    Duelund
    Mundorf Supremes
    Auricap
    Jupiter

    There are a lot of brands that offer far superior products with a wider range of higher end choices.

    Just out of curiosity, what do you dislike about the build quality of the Sonicaps? Bad materials on the inside, or don't like how they make the leads, or ???

    I am not a big fan of the leads, feel cheap to me. I also am not a big fan of the construction in general, they use thin tape on the exterior and they just do not seem to be made as good as the Clarity ESA/SA, Mundorf Supreme variants.

    This is just my preference.
