hi,
I am thinking of getting 2 Bose 161 bookshelf speakers which will be hooked up to a JVC 601xxx reciever. These 2 speakers will be front speakers.
But I am not sure if it is worth the extra money, what am i supposed to look for in speakers. I have a small room, a 10x12ft room. I will use it mostly for music and movies. I want to get some good speakers for the front, and I already have a 90Watt PSW120 subwoofer.
any suggestions? r should I go with the bose speakers?

Here is what you do......take the money you were going to spend on Bose, go to the toilet, put money in the pot. flush.
Seriously cochise, being a polk website, I think we are probably going to tell you to buy polk speakers. I would go listen to some different speakers before you purchase. Figure out your price range, pick out a couple of your favorite cd's and go listen to some speakers. I would suggest listening to rt25i's, rt35i's...if you want a good, inexpensive floorstanding speakers check out the R40's. B&W also makes some very good, relatively inexpensive bookshelves as well....

whatever you do, DON'T GET THE BOSE.....
the rt35i's are amazing little speakers for the price... have them paired with 25i's as my rears now... -
Ok, how much are these little 161's?
I'll bet I can name at least 10 other specific models for the same or less $, that offer so much more.
Don't do it, esp with a single 'full range' driver, UG.

Those don't even have the bass module! (sorry, I couldn't resist)

Aaron does seem to be the resident expert on Bose....

(disclaimer) I do not, nor have I ever owned Bose speakers. I go listen to them when I'm in Best Buy, just for laughs, however.
For what you'll spend on Bose 161's, you should be able to pick up a pair of Polk RT15i's that would demolish the 161's, performance-wise. Plus you'd get real tweeters, real crossovers, and a real wood enclosure! Or if you don't care about the wood veneer, you could go with the R10's and probably save a little money.

BTW, welcome to the forum, dxpertjr! You already learned how to cause a stir by using the "B" word! -

I'd say folks here seem to be pretty good at "telling it like it is" nevertheless. For instance, I've seen numerous posts suggesting that subwoofers are one area where it isn't necessarily a bad idea to stray outside the Polk "family." (and props to Polk Audio for not trying to censor such "heresy" from their forums.)Main HT (family room): Polk Monitor 7 (1987-original owner) (L/R) / CSi40 (C) / RTi38 (SL/SR) / SVS 20-39PC (sub), Outlaw 975 pre/pro / Outlaw 7075 amp, Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray, LG 42LM5800 teevee
2ch (family room): CRS+ (1987), Outlaw 1050 AVR, Denon DCM-420 CD
Kitchen satellite 2ch: Polk M3II, Topping TP-20 Tripath amp fed from 975 rec line out
Home office: Model 5 (1978-Danish Peerless), Lepai 2020A+ Tripath amp fed by laptop dock
Awaiting assignment: PSW202 (NIB) to be wired inline in home office rig; Monitor 5JR (1988), Model 4 (1983-US Peerless)
