As usual. the bear of cp was loaded with gear when he came by to help me set up my pristine sda 1cs.
Ics, Tubes, as well as the anthem amp2, to match with my sonic frontiers sfl1 pre.
The only problem, small as it is, is a hum, hardly noticeable when no music is playing,
I have switched tubes to a gold prong, russian made he loaned me, no avail.
It is only noticeable during quiet, or silent pasages. but it is starting to get to me.
Have tried many ics, none to any available.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I have a carver tfm 25, which has no hum, but I dont believe has the balls this amp does, might be wrong.
Thanks again
scott and deb

I had luck with a "Ebtech Hum X Voltage Hum Filter" I got from amazon but its like $50, but it solved a problem I had. So I'd try the others 1st.2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge
HT - Polk 703's * NAD T-758 * Adcom 5503 * Oppo 103 * Samsung 60" series 8 LCD -
Is the hum coming from the speakers or the amp itself...with nothing connected to it ?HT SYSTEM-
Sony 850c 4k
Pioneer elite vhx 21
Sony 4k BRP
SVS SB-2000
Polk Sig. 20's
Polk FX500 surrounds
Cables-
Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable
Kitchen
Sonos zp90
Grant Fidelity tube dac
B&k 1420
lsi 9's -
I think i have a cheater plug here somewhere, if im correct, it just allows you to plug a three prong plug in one end, and the other side has only the two blades, no round ground prong, right?
the hum is coming from the speakers, not the amp or any other units.
If the cheater does not work, will look into the other hum filter, thanks all.
if all else fails, will have to unpile everything and put the carver back.
BTW, any opinions on the quality, worthiness between the tfm25 and the anthem, kinda think i know the answer, but what the heck.humpty dumpty was pushed -

Ok I just swapped the anthem out and the carver tfm 25 in.
Sounds very different, dont want to say better, because that anthem has some real heft, but the carver is silent when it needs to be, and when cranked, more than holds its own.
Still interested in what is causing the hum in the anthem.
Let me tell you this, the anthem is one heavy ****,and not just compared to the carver, to me its a testament to bob carver that he could make an amp without the heft, and heat that still sounds so good.humpty dumpty was pushed -

Well, so much for my theory (impedance), that should be a good match with that amp.Main System- Scratch built 2A3 , Lightspeed preamp, Technics SP15/Graham/XV1s,Klipschorns w/ALK xovers/Trachorns, Speakercraft MT8(4), Sonos ZP90, Yamaha Aventage for surround

Scotty, I had the same issue and this worked a treat for me. Take a piece of wire and connect the chassis of the pre to the chassis of the power amp. You can also connect the CDP if the hum is still present, though connecting just the two completely eliminated the hum for me. You can do it externally using the case screws as long as they're not painted or power coated.
Differing ground potentials can cause this.
Lifting the ground on the amp should only be a temporary solution as it's there for safety."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
Thanks drum, I have put the carver in place, but i will keep that info filed away.humpty dumpty was pushed
