RC80i rear surrounds in RTiA 7.1 setup? Or, timbre matching importance
Bought a house a few months ago that was pre-wired for surround - RC80i's already in the ceiling (behind where the couch is) and binding posts are already there for the side surrounds.
I was planning on moving my RTi bookshelves to the sides and picking up some RTiA7's for the fronts (and keep the CSi for the center). Now, everyone keeps telling me I need to at the least buy all timbre-matched speakers regardless of their function (rear, front, etc) at a minimum (a few of my audio nerd friends suggest that all 7 speakers must be the same model)... but how important is this, really? I would imagine that there just isn't enough content going through the rear speakers in a 7.1 setup for it to matter that much.
