Health issues have me worried..

Glad you got a doctor who is so thorough...keep her!
I have had male friends who always had male doctors that ended up with women and came back to say that it was the longest exam they have ever had. She asked me a million questions LISTENED to all my answers, poked, prodded and went examining things their male counter parts never went near, and had me go to the lab to take half my blood supply! But you know what, it was the most thorough exam I've ever had in my life and if she comes back and tells me I'm healthy I'll believe her because she checked EVERYTHING!
I had an accident last year that banged me up some but I figured I would be fine in a few days, well the next morning I was not only sore, but very sick & dizzy and couldn't keep anything down. By lunchtime I called my doctor and she had me come in. She did an ekg, and then told me to go to Quincy Med Ctr to get a CT scan of my head, she wanted to rule out heart attack and stroke! Why, because all of my symptoms were consistent with those two problems for women! The ER doctor was focused on xraying my knee and when I told him that I was there for a CT scan he asked me of what I told him my head and he said why? you're not having a stroke or heart attack, I asked him and you can see this how??? My doctor sent me for one, and I want one done!
Needless to say I was pissed! Well I got my CT scan and everything checked out fine, I had a bad case of vertigo. But I will always be thankful to my doctor and I made sure I told her, that she was thorough enough to check. Both my mother & a good friend of mine had heart attacks that went undiagnosed and untreated for a long time because our symptoms are totally different from mens!
So don't let some arrogant male doctor talk you into manning up and just taking it. The difference could cost you your life. Unless you are a hypochondriac, you know your body better than anyone, if you got a doc that won't listen, find one that will! Best of luck to you HTG.
I can completely identify with this. Not to say that all male Doctors have a God complex, they don't. But I also have a female Doctor who is wonderful. Exactly as you describe. Listens to everything and is willing to fight the insurance companies for tests. Can't say enough about getting someone who you can "talk" to and who will "listen" and "talk with you". And who also knows her/his field well!!

HTGuru - please disregard such sexist drivel!
Wow, Cathy, to denounce the entire male physician population just because you may have had one with which you didn't agree with their judgment, is really just plain ignorant! Pretty much on par with: I just hope those male MDs with their huge egos that you speak of never work on the same wing of the hospital as all those female MDs who stomp around the place with a chip on their shoulder because some senior war veteran called them "nurse"! That could really result in the perfect storm! ;-)
Good luck to Guru. I hope he gets the care he needs in a timely manner, no matter the sex of the providers. It sounds like he's on the right track. -

That's basically the kind of experience I've had with a lot of male doctors. There's definitely a sense of arrogance in some of them. The ER doctor wasn't bad, though, I actually liked him. He asked me questions. But the last two, Jesus Christ... This new one though is a keeper. She didn't stop asking questions. When she walked into the room, she had me get off the exam table and sit next to her in the chair as she talked to me. I've never had a doctor do that.
I'm glad that everything turned out okay with your scans. Not knowing why something in your body is doing things it shouldn't is the worst part.Display: Sony 42" LCD

EXACTLY! The same goes for dealing with a professional in any field, no matter the sex of that professional. -
Glad to hear they are looking for infections and disease. But are they looking at at other health factors like vitamin and mineral levels?
What does your diet look like?
I can't tell you how many people I know that have been through the ringer with doctors and hospitals with YEARS of "health problems" to finally dump all the bull crap and start taking care of themselves. Eating right, drinking plenty of water, take proper supplements, stay active and they have never been in better health. Medication free.
I really hope there is nothing seriously wrong. But before you start popping pills and injections, look to other issues with how you take care of yourself. -

Kind of makes you want to tell the doctor, 'How about I put two of my boots up your arse and you let me know if that doesn't get better". : ' )HTguru1982 wrote: »Glad to hear you're enjoying those 300i's. Did you ever find a grill for it?
No, we didn't even bother looking. We took the grill off the other 300i and use them as high fronts for my son's rig (in a horizontal position). We're using another set that we got off of Mr. Scott for side surrounds. Results ? AWESOME. Should that setup work ? Maybe not. But AWESOME is AWESOME. : ' )
BTW, keep pluggin' and chuggin' . One of the good things is that it seems like you finally found a caring, knowledgeable doctor. That's at least half the battle. So sit back, relax the best you can, and enjoy the show.Sal Palooza -
My diet is actually pretty normal. The gf and I do go out to eat once a week. The one thing that has changed about my diet recently is that I've stopped drinking milk like I used to. The doc actually did ask me about any changes in my diet and that was mentioned. Admittedly, I do eat a lot of fried foods, especially chicken. Deep fried chicken wings almost every weekend lol. I also tend to drink a lot of soda, especially at work and that's something I know I need to work on. But at the same time, I stay very active. I'm on my feet and moving all the time, I work out a couple of times a week, and overall, I'm in pretty good shape. A little flabby in the middle but only by a couple of inches. I take a vitamin supplement and the only medication I use in my asthma inhaler and even then I rarely use it. The question you asked is the very same question this doctor asked so I think she's looking at every possibility, too and that's what has made me feel a lot better.Upstatemax wrote: »Glad to hear they are looking for infections and disease. Where in my post do you see that I put down all male doctors? I didn't! I simply said that if you happen to have a male doctor that won't listen, find one that does. Blood tests came back today and everything was normal. That's a huge relief. Just gotta wait for the CT scan.Display: Sony 42" LCD

That is great to hear... if your Doc hasn't already warned you i would cut down on that pop intake. A couple beers a day has health benefits, take the alcohol out and its could be considered healthy, but the several pop a day thing does have some issues. Moderation is the key to any food or drink intake. Hope your CT results are unremarkable as well. -
Good to hear about the blood tests.....that's some relief i'm sure.
Focusing on the soft drinks.....definately cut them off bud, they have no value to you whatsoever. I admit, I drink one on an occasion but I used to drink them often....maybe 1 or 2 a day until I found out how much 40 grams of sugar is.
One 12 oz can has 40 grams, to put that into perspective, I weighed out a small packet of sugar...the ones you find in the caddy at restaurants.
40 grams is 16 bags of sugar....2.2 grams per bag. Restaurant glasses are about 18-20 oz, add a refill or 2 then you are at about 60 bags of sugar for 3 20oz drinks.
Was an eye opener for sure. -
I've tried so many times to give up soda. The longest I've been able to go is about three weeks. I actually begin to feel a lot better after about a week of not having it. But then I go on break at work and there's that Coca Cola vending machine, tempting me...
My fiance has been keeping an eye on me these last couple of weeks. I've started drinking green tea recently as well as just water. I've also started to drink more milk. I'm down to a 20 oz of Coke a day. If I can get that down to zero, I'll be good.Display: Sony 42" LCD

Guru - glad your blood tests came back within normal limits. What's the word on your CT scan? Have you had it yet? Are you still having symptoms?

I haven't had the CT scan done yet. Seems like I'm playing the insurance game of "will they or won't they pay for it". Doc told me to call her if I haven't heard back from them by Tues. Thankfully though, I'm feeling a bit better. The sharp pains are gone but I still have the dull ache in my lower back that's more of an annoyance than a hindrance.Display: Sony 42" LCD
