A note to anyone else who tries the TL tweeter XO on 2.3s

Watch the pinout of the output connector. The schematic from Polk (In Dr. Smith's excellent treatise on Polk SDAs) doesn't have the connector in the expected order. Though the tweeters are labeled 1, 2, 3, the pins don't, and the wiring isn't in 1, 2, 3 order. I missed that the first time around, so will need to fix the first speaker I did.

What TL mod to the 2.3's?

    F1nut,
I've gone on a different path than others. I replaced the tweeter section of my 2.3s with the RDO-198s, and the cross-over design from the 2.3TLs (nearly). It may not match the mid/bass drivers really well, since I have the older speakers with 6511/6513 drivers, but it does flatten the top end nicely. Further, I like the sound of the 198s best of the 3 tweeters I've tried.

I did also replace the caps in the bottom half, but haven't gone to the XO changes and 6510 drivers of the TL. I also tried Westmassguy's suggestion of an iron-core inductor with larger gauge wire on one side. While the bass is nice, I may revert to the stock inductor unless the error is in only having done one that way. Time will tell.

Ok so, you have changed all the caps and resistors? What about the 0.3mH inductor? Did you also reverse the polarity?

Yes, yes, and yes. However I did use a 7.5uF cap instead of 8. Yes, I know I could have paralleled two 4uF, or gotten closer with an 8.2, and these are Solen caps, not the much vaunted Sonicaps. The inductor is from Solen, as well. Mills 22 ohm,12W resistors, so 1/2 ohm shy of spec. I considered putting 1/2 ohm out front in trade for the polyswitch, but decided not to. that's why I went to the 22 ohm resistors.

Very good. I'd suggest if you plan on keeping them that way to install the correct values. Just an FYI, those Solen caps are a bit too grainy for a high frequency circuit.

I think I need to find out what my ears are worth, first. :( Also, I've been in and out of these speakers more than any others I've owned, so I'd like to just listen for a while, I think. We'll see.

I think I've already spent as much in XO components & tweeters as I did when I bought them. Certainly more when you count up analysis gear. Let the poor credit card settle...

Nothing wrong with taking a break to assess your work.

Especially if it puts a smile on your face.
