So I was able to snag a pair of sda 1c for 200 dollars .... I couldn't pass it up as I've always wanted a pair of of these. Well I popped out all the dust caps and took them apart amd found that one of the passives had unglued itself from the ,what I believe is called the spider , correct me If I'm wrong . Now what would be the best way to go about gluing that back together. ?

Question number 2. The guy that sold them to me said the tweeters ha stopped working on one of the speakers but when I listened to them they're working fine , should I go ahead and remove the poly switch ? Or could it be something else ?

Oh and their is a good sized dent on one of the corners on the top of the speaker, I'm guessing a replacement top would be the best way to go about fixing that ?

    Congrats! That's great price.
    Where you located at?

    1. Wait for others to answers but I think you can just glue it back as there is no magnet/VC to worry about.
    2. Take the bad tweeter out and check it with a multi meter if you have it. If not swap that tweeter to another one and see if it works. If it does, it could be the poly switch that needs replacement or replace with .3-.5 resistor.

For corner dent, replacement is the right way to go as even wood fillers need quite some work to match. Or you can take it out and put the dented side towards the back so it's less noticeable.

Congratulations. That's a great deal on fine vintage Polks!

Whether or not the stock tweeters are working (assuming they are the stock SL2000s), I suggest you replace them with RDO194s from Polk Audio. You'll love the improvement in sound quality IMHO.

Now what would be the best way to go about gluing that back together. ?

Do not use epoxy as it will melt the Styrofoam. IIRC, some have used Aleene's Tacky Glue. An acrylic bonding agent would work as well.
should I go ahead and remove the poly switch ?

Yes and replace them with either a jumper or a .5 ohm resistor.
Oh and their is a good sized dent on one of the corners on the top of the speaker, I'm guessing a replacement top would be the best way to go about fixing that ?

That type of damage can be repaired by a professional so that you can't even see it.
Or you can take it out and put the dented side towards the back so it's less noticeable.

You cannot turn an end cap so that the front faces the back.

Yeah these sda will be my summer project before I get back to school , I want to restore them and get them in tip top shape . I didn't think about getting the top professionally fixed I was just going to replace it but I'll definitely have to look into that . The top is really the only thing bugging me about these speakers . It did have sunken dust caps but I managed to pull them out and I applied some water on the caps with a brush ( don't know if I shouldn't have done that ) anyways this morning I took a look at the dust caps to see if the crease marks disappeared and bam they look good as new .

I have yet to listen to give the sda a good listening but when I do I'll post my opinions on this thread ... I'm sure someone more inclined in this area could give a better review but regardless I'll post my experience on here when I give the sda a good audition.

Congrats on the SDA's & at a great price. Just curious how you have them set up-placement & did you get the cord (not sure if i missed that) . R & L speaker in placement properly. Im looking forward to hearing your thoughts of those compare to your other fine speakers you have. Enjoy

That corner took a big hit. I would open that speaker to inspect for cabinet damage such as open seams and check that the crossover is still attached to the inductor.

A good shop would be able to repair the corner, but it won't be cheap.

Well I have them in my bedroom which is too small to place properly , I'm in the process of moving into a different place so I'll soon have an extra room for my speakers . And yeah the previous owner still had the cord and boxes and manual.

Yeah I opened them up and checked all the drivers , the crossover of course wasn't attached to the inductor but I believe that was because the previous owner had taken it off to see why the tweeters weren't working ... The previous owner told me he bought the speaker at a marked down price because of the dent do that dent has been there for quite some time .

Other that the bumped corner, the speakers look very clean from your pics. Do you think the speaker got knocked over and that's how the cornered got damaged?
