Since my tube pre amp purchase I am trying to get myself familiarized with tube rolling and the options available.

Down the line, I would like to role the tubes in my Cary SLP05 Pre

in my search Black Treasures ( CV181-Z ) came up few times and looks like they are one the best bang for buck current production tubes.

Unfortunately those doesn't seem to fit SLP05 due to their wider base.

Looks like the newer CV181-TII seems to be better sounding than black treasures and comes with standard 6sn7 base which will fit SLP05.

Anyhow does any body got a chance to try em? How they sound? would you recommend them?

If you have any alternative suggestions for a 6sn7 replacements I am all your ears.

Thanks in advance for your time to reply.

I have the black treasures via the man THSmith as he upgraded his pre. Really good tubes pending what speakers you run them with

If you have a forward sounding speaker then I recommend finding a set of RCA VT231 smoked glass. If you have laid back speaker then the CV181 would be a great choice. my .02

    Still about synergy my friend

    Cheers

I consider the 707's warm/neutral side and the CV-181 would be a good match

    Happy hunting and rolling

There are many tubes out there to try in your case(6sn7) I'd go for some sylvania's somewhere in the 50's. I'd start with say 6sn7wgt brown base or go for the GTB black base hard to go wrong with those. I just seen some Tungsols go for decent money all nos with boxes 7tubes i think for 200.00. you could go with these http://www.ebay.com/itm/181403865902?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 skys the limit....the other option are 5692's they are one sweet tube. I got lucky and got a pair NOS sylvania's for 70.00 which is about 90.00 less that they go for so be patient and they will come to you. See below for the pair I just picked upVVVVV

    AWESOME tubes....

I use Psvane CV181-T black bottles in my preamp. Absolutely wonderful sounding tube IMHO. Everyone's taste is different, so YMMV. For me, I am a huge fan of Shuguang/Psvane tubes. Looks like your preamp uses eight 6SN7s. Eight CV181-TIIs will cost one a pretty penny. Enjoy the ride.

I think only 4 tubes has real effect on the output
I think I will be good with two pairs
