Is the picture just making them look different or are these actually Monitor 5's?

It kind of looks like the grills go all the way to the bottom of the speaker, but it's really hard to tell. Might just be the angle of the pic, I'm not sure. My early Peerless Monitor 5's the grills stop an inch from the bottom and the Polk logo is attached to the cabinet instead of the grill. I'd guess these are SL1000 or later but, again, the picture isn't very good quality.

hrm my Peerless Monitor 5s have the grill going all the way to the bottom, badges lower right hand corner on the grills as well, not on the cabinets. Just like the ones pictured. One MW6500 is dated for September '79 if that helps.
Interesting and informative, you never know with the older Polks! I swear I learn something new about them everyday.

May be but they look little short to be 5's .
    Could be 4.5's.

Those really look like 5's to me, but not 5B's as my 5B's have a beveled angle on the front. Next to that CD changer they look taller than 5jr's but shorter than 7's. Do the M5 series 2 have the bevel? I can't remember...

Anyways, if none of the drivers are blown they're well-worth the $40 asking price.

    I've never seen a 4.5 or 4.6 so don't know about them...

    I stand corrected.
They are 5's with peerless tweeters but one mid woofer is replaced.
I'm not in a mood to get more speakers though so get them Nightfall if you want to add another peerless pair.

Did you contact the seller? What was the MW replaced with, Polks replacement chinese woofer or some random 6.5" that happened to fit?
