The trio of thieves didn’t even enter the gas station the old-fashioned way — no broken glass, no picked locks.

Instead, one of them donned a Hess gas station shirt and walked into the convenience store as if he were a deliveryman, KYW-TV in Philadelphia reported. The next guy in the crew walked in and pointed a gun at the 18-year-old behind the counter, who was there working the overnight shift to make some extra cash before starting college classes next month.
In a scuffle at about 1 a.m. Monday, the gun went off, grazing the kid in the head. (He was later treated at a hospital and released.)

The crooks locked him in a bathroom and tied him up.

“He said he was told to stay quiet,” the victim’s father told KYW.

Then the thieves went to work — literally.

For the next few hours, they pumped gas at discounted rates to add to whatever they stole from the inside the store, an amount that hasn’t been reported.

“That’s real bold,” the dad told KYW. “I just don’t understand that one.”

Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker agreed.

“In my career, that’s the first time I’ve seen or heard something like this occur,” Walker told KYW. “Obviously they probably didn’t feel like they got enough money, so they’re going to sit there, take control of the business, offer gas at a discounted price and try to get additional money, which is just bizarre.”

Police said they believe the thieves pulled the same caper at different gas station a week ago. In both cases, however, there were no surveillance cameras for investigators to review.


Now I don't know whether to applaud the ingenuity or simply think they are dumb as a box of rocks. Gotta admit though, that's a new one.

Wish I knew ahead of time, Could have filled up and got a carton of smokes dirt cheap. Maybe they'll come to Illinois soon. LOL
