It’s long been thought that vampires live forever by drinking the blood of young victims – and new research may just be proving this theory.

Today, three very interesting studies published in the journals Science and Nature Medicine analyzed older mice and how they were affected when injected with blood, and blood proteins, of younger mice.

Conducted by researchers at Harvard University, University of California San Francisco and Stanford University, these studies found that post-injections, the aging mice had higher levels of strength and endurance, as well as improved memory. The younger blood also caused the older mice to develop more blood vessels and more blood flow to the brain.

It’s not clear exactly why these changes occurred, though researchers suspect a particular protein called GDF11 may play a role, as it is much more abundant in the blood of younger mice.

So what can we learn from this experiment? As we age, certain components in our blood decrease over time, and because of advancements in life-saving technologies, the global population is growing much older overall. Therefore research must continue searching for bodily substances that get depleted over time, so that we might replace them in the future.

A perfect example includes research surrounding adult stem cells. There are many scientists that argue that young adults should consider harvesting their stem cells for potential use in the future when they’re older. There is a whole new field of medicine called regenerative medicine, in which stem cells are already being used for organ regeneration and human transplantation.

Recently, researchers at the Wake Forest Institute of Regenerative Medicine, known for conducting the first-ever lab-grown bladder transplants, made another incredible breakthrough in this field. They successfully implanted fully functioning vaginas into four women – using cells taken from the patients’ own tissues.

Since we are on the topic of longevity, I would also like to point out some of the interesting findings from an ongoing study called “90+,” conducted by Dr. Claudia Kawas of the University of California, Irvine. Utilizing medical questionnaires from 14,000 residents of a retirement community in Laguna Woods, California, Kawas and her team focused on the members who were still alive past age 90, examining them physically and cognitively for six months.

Their ongoing analysis has revealed a number of lifestyle habits and factors associated with longer life – including moderate consumption of alcohol, moderate physical activity, putting on a little weight, maintaining healthy blood pressure, and finally, socialization. Thank goodness most of these seniors didn’t care much about their computers. Instead, they were more preoccupied with dancing and having dinner with each other than being hooked on Facebook or Twitter.

So here’s my advice to wannabe vampires hoping to live as long as possible: Keep on sucking that young blood and drop your smart phones.

I guess you can say they are also saying the opposite, you'll die earlier if you bury your nose in the hand held devices, become a hermit and never socialize. Hope there's an app for cheap funeral services...lol.

The meat of the story is about young blood, anyone wanna donate to an old dude...like me ? Seriously, you didn't need to do this study. Just look at Keith Richards, isn't he walking proof ? The man will be alive longer than plastic. Interesting none the less, and I see a huge market for harvesting your younger stem cells for use when your old...like CNH.

AND...since they also claim the worlds population is aging, does that not open the door for more tube sales...more warmer sounding cables and gear ? I would think so.....

AND...the next time your caught sucking on the neck of some blonde with double D's in the corner of a bar, site this study to your wife and tell me how that works out for ya.

i say let the trolls nested in their phones die early, there are so many people that a little trimming isnt a bad thing. now before you go and say im a bad guy and whatnot, i dont think killing people is ok, and i know its terrible for people to lose loved ones, and all that jazz, but the world would not be so bad off if some people just started dropping off.

on a different note, this is very interesting and i enjoyed reading it, i hope you keep us updated as you read more into it.

Oh...I can think of many....many people I would like to see drop off the face of the earth. Unfortunately that's not my call, and maybe it shouldn't be anyway.

like i said let it hapen naturally, no one needs to speed it up, except nature, lol, if it does, you may lose me here, but some people might see that as a gain, lol, at leats after some of the things i put out from time to time. i've already had a pretty near death expirience in a ccar wreck this year, so i have been trying to shape up though.

Doesn't anyone remember the big stink 25-30 years ago about Mick Jagger going out into international waters to get blood transfusions with "young" blood?
I guess he was ahead of his time on this.

If you think about the whole concept, makes sense. Engine oil is the life blood of your engine, we change that on a regular basis. Can't imagine what my blood looks like after years of Italian lunch meats, pasta, ice cream, Cannoli's. Probably looks like the oil in a Yugo after 20 years of never being changed. Matter of fact, I'm kinda feeling like that Yugo too...LOL.

Your blood isn't years old, cells are constantly being replaced by your body. What appears to be breaking down is the quality of blood produced. Instead of harvesting our young, our quality of life can be improved with stem cell research.

On the socialization part, not as easy as you'd think it is.

Mainly because everyone is buried in the media devices. If everyone has their nose in a glowing screen, there's nobody left to socialize with.

Kinda the point Face, imagine a procedure that would harvest your stem cells in your late teens early 20's, stored for use later in life as your health degrades. What would the cost of storing such for so long be ? Can't imagine that....for hundreds of millions of people ? Nice in theory, but practical or affordable it won't be.

We are at the cusp of creating 2 different HC systems. One for the general public, and one for the elite. Guess which one gets the better.
