Replace LSIM 703s with LSIM 705s as fronts?

My current set up :

Fronts: Lsim 703s
Center: Lsim 704c
Surrounds LSim 702 f/x

These are all driven by an Emotiva XPA 5 and with an Onkyo 818 doing HT pre-amp duties, and an Emotiva DC-1 and a
Sherbourn Pre-1 thrown in for two channel listening. I am using a PSW 505 as a sub, but it will soon be replaced by an SVS,
although the system already sounds fantastic as is. People tell me the sub is the only real weak link in the chain.

My question is whether I can squeeze even more 2-channel joy out of the rig if were to replace the 703s with 705s. Will the 705s, also paired with the sub, make a significant audible difference to warrant the cost? I sort of doubt that, but I thought I should
ask the experts on these boards since I have never really heard the 705s myself, and do not know of any place nearby where I
can audition them. Were the 705s to be introduced into the mix, I might just move the 703s into a "wides" or "heights" position...

Again, the current rig is easily the best sounding I've ever had, and I shouldn't be asking for anything more if it were possible for someone like me to be completely satisfied with what I'm hearing. However, if the 705 upgrades will produce a significant boost in SQ, I wouldn't be averse to trying them out.

Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance

If you really want a better 2 channel experience I would suggest getting a better amp and pre amp.

F1nut: Thanks! I have been thinking of replacing the Pre-1 with the Emotiva XSP-1 (because I hear the DC-1 Dac coupled with the XSP-1 make a killer combo), and also using my XPA-2 for the fronts (in which case the XPA-5 shall handle the center and surrounds). Do you think those changes would produce a substantial difference or are you saying I should ditch the Emotiva gear altogether altogether and look elsewhere...? I generally enjoy the Emotiva products for their bang for buck value.

Also, since you recommend changing only the amp and pre-amp, I assume you're implying that the 703s can hold their own as fronts under the right conditions, even when compared to the 705s... Is this assumption correct? Thanks again.

Yes, for 2 channel I would look elsewhere.

The 705's are very nice and if you didn't have a sub I would say get them for 2 channel, but since you've got a sub (are getting a better one) I don't see that as a worth while move.

Thanks for that input... I also suspect the 705 + sub won't make too much of a significant difference as compared to the 703 + sub, but I
confess that, in considering the 705s, I have been more seduced by their looks and form factor as towers, rather than by any firm belief
that they'll seriously outperform the bookshelves. Now that I have openly admitted to my own vanity, I can explore other more useful ways of improving my 2-channel sq... Again, not that I am in some way disappointed with the 703s... Far from it!

how about just get the 707s and forget about the sub idea? I'd do that if I were you.

707 are kind of hard to place and a sub can go where the low bass can perform the best. Cost wise you can't 703 and a good sub win every day. 703 on the right stand are very nice to look at. Not to mention the bookies let you have a choice of height its much harder to raise or lower a tower to better fit your listening position.

    ^^^ 1+ Thanks, pretzelfisch:

nhhiep: The 707s would overstretch my budget quite a bit, and while it would be great to have them for Two-channel listening, I am not sure that they would beat an actual sub or 2 for 5.1/7.1 HT purposes, although I may be wrong, since I have not heard them before (but i doubt that). In that sense, I am betting having a sub will provide my rig with more versatility as opposed to having the 707s without a subLet me know what you think
