Blue sparks

Went to turn on my Dared SL-2000a and very bright blue sparks starting flying inside the rectifier tube. The tube is a NOS Tungsram 5Z4G.

Is the tube gone & is this type of thing normal for an old tube when it goes out?

Not surprising, that rectifier can end it's life in a tragic display of electrons flying. NOS tubs can be great but the unknown factor is how they were handled all those years, I have also seen them develop minute vacuum leaks leading to an early demise. Hope you have a spare to use. It's rare that a rectifier going out damages anything else.

Old tube took a crap, time to buy another. Simple as that. **** happens stuff works untill it doesn't , dont sweat it just buy another. And yes back in the day I have brand new tubes put in and explode sending glass all over the place never mind tubes over 30 years old.
