Replacing sub driver

I have an Infinity BU-2 sub that I need to replace the driver in. ( 4 year old niece, army man, port, need any more info?). Question is, can I put any 12" driver in there or do I have to pay attention to ohms, etc. It is 100 watts, powered. Don't know if you need more info. Any driver suggestions? Looking to upgrade the crib so money is a slight issue. Thanx!

You should measure the DC resistance of the old sub and driver opening. Any sub driver that matches will suffice if you plug the port.
Ideally you can contact Infinity for the T/S parameters but they probably wont give you them.Graham -
Agreed, if you seal the box up, pretty much any replacement woof will WORK, granted the impedance is acceptable to the internal amp.
Measure the port(s), and measure the cabinet volume, and if you can get the continuous power rating and impedance load the amp is looking for - we can probably track down a list for you, most of which will probably upgrades over the stock woof.

I have an MTX driver that came from the boys car in there now. It actually doesn't sound half bad. Not sure how to measure but port (ext. opening) is approx. 4". Actual cabinet is 14 1/2 cubed. Crossover is 50 to 200Hz continuously variable. sensitivity is : low 70mV and high 1.7V. Impedance is : low 12k and high 5 k. Frequency is 30 to 150 Hz. Hope this helps. The MTX shouldn't hurt anything?

Since it is a car sub the nominal impedance is probably 4 ohms, maybe 2. Measure the old driver with an ohm meter to see if they are the same or similar. If not, the amp may run very hot if the old driver was 8 ohms. As for the port, I would take it out and plug it and make it a sealed sub.Graham
