Just had an Adcom 555 amp re-capped. Is there a burn-in period similar to re-capping a speaker crossover?? On the same note... I just purchased a Marantz CD player. Will that have a burn-in period also?? Thanks for the input.

No..with electrolytics just the slow deterioration process starts take place.Give it 20 ish years depending on temp lifespan rating of the caps and the actual operating temp.

When I re-capped my Parasound the burn in seemed rather dramatic. The sound started harsh and lacked dimension. Over the course of just a few hours, you could hear it smooth out and the sound stage open up.

The last amp I recapped wasn't anywhere close to 20 years old and had no problems with the original caps. The owner wanted better quality caps installed. After the owner got it back he wasn't happy with the sound and commented about the lack of bass. He thought he made a big mistake. I told him to give it some time, which he did. Reported back that it sounded better than ever and that the bass was tighter, cleaner and more powerful than before. Yes Virginia, burn in is real.

Thanks for the input. I will give them both some time to break in and see if I can notice a difference.
