The Decemberists; The King Is Dead. Just got this today, never heard of them 2 weeks ago. Think i seen them on The Colbert Report. Sound alot like early REM. Gonna have to get more.
The Decemberists have been showing up on my Slacker and Pandora alt stations quite a bit. Like 'em a lot - great sound. Give Band of Horses a listen - another lesser-known, but unique sound. I've been listening to them quite a bit lately. Gonna play an entire album for my commute today - Cease to Begin.

That album sounds like early REM because Peter Buck is featured on "Don't Carry It All", "Calamity Song", and "Down By the Water". Meloy has said that REM was the primary influence when writing the songs also.

This is a fantastic live performance; definitely one of Dave's best. He and Tim really have chemistry when working together, and that really shows in this concert.

Wow, I haven't pulled out this piece of vinyl in awhile. I really love the older Jewel albums, and I was also lucky enough to see her in concert back in the good old days. However, when she released 0304 and started going through the "pop" phase, uggghhhh. I've heard some of her newer stuff is supposed to be closer to her roots, but I haven't listened for myself yet. Any thoughts on that Rick?
