I have to confess… I really like this album and even have the DVD. I never thought I’d ever see a Kurt Cobain song successfully done as a swing tune until I heard this excellent record from Paul Anka.
This album was in the running for Jazz Album of the Year in 2005. It has an excellent supporting cast of musicians and all the tracks are well thought-out and tight. This is not some lame Richard Cheese novelty album but rather an excellent concept album of classic rock tunes from the 70s and 80s.
One of the more ironic songs on here is Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life” not only because John Bon Jovi plays guitar on this album as a band member but also because of the lyrics referencing Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” which was written by Paul Anka and became Sinatra's signature tune.
