the momo mmc460s have a sensitivity of 88, will they sound good running off a sony HU, or should i find a small amp to run them? i would prefer not to, but dont want them to not play their best.

youd hear a noticeable difference if you heard the same speakers off a better head unit
and the EX series arent as power hungry as the momo series
the 4x6s are rated at 50 watts i think
your head unit might put out 22 watts
    and thats not clean watts...
theyd be underpowered on an unreliable source

I agree with cody, the biggest downfall of your system is the fact that you use a sony head unit

if i got a profile clarus cl440 50x4 amp, would this run the fronts and rears ok? also, this may be a stupid question, but is it possible to wire the rears in parallel (like a pair of subs) in one of the channels to get the 2ohm load of 75w?

Profile makes a damn decent amp. Even though the price would lead you to believe theyre in the Pyle, Pyramid league, they are quite good and will give a good clean stout signal.

In order to get a 2 ohm load with 4 speakers youd have to wire 2 speakers to one channel. Im not clear on why you would want to do that. If you have 4 speakers and a 4 channel amp then dont worry about a 2 ohm load.

Whenever you go down to a lower load impedance you increase distortion and make the amp work harder. This isnt as big a concern when pushing subs but for your main speakers you want as clean a signal as possible and the less the amp has to work the cleaner the sound. I would stick with the 50x4. If youre wanting more power then Id suggest moving up to a bigger amp.

there is no reason why you want to bridge a 4 channel amp
im not sure if it can even handle a 2 ohm load
they have 3 channel amps if you want to have 2 speakers powered and a sub

Well most higher end amps can be taken down to 2 ohms and/or bridged. Take the RF 551X. Its 70x4 at 4 and 140x4 at 2 ohms. Or you can run it as a 5 channel at 140x2 (70x4) + 275x1.

I agree though that its better to just spend the extra cash and get a bigger amp.

the mmc460s are rated at 50w RMS, how much could i safely go over this, around 70-75w?

i wouldnt take it farther than 75 watts
which would probably be pushing it

would this us acoustics amp be good? it does 65x2, but it doesnt have built in crossovers. since the mmc460s already have built in 2-way crossovers, wont they be ok?

This is just my personal opinion, but $50 for an amp raises all kinds of flags. Id recommend laying down a little more cash and getting something in a higher league.

Alpine makes a 50x2 for $110 at Circuit City. I have one and its a very good amp. No bells or whistles and its no powerhouse but its very clean and accurate.

You could move up to the V12 series from Alpine which I think are some of the best sounding amps around. The T320 is $200 at Crutchfield. I know its rated at 80 watts and youre looking to come in below 75 but that 80 watts is at 14.4 volts from 20-200 Hz. The 14.4 volt rating at 20-20,000 HZ is 60 rms which wont blow your speakers and itll be crystal clear.

us acoustics is a big mystery to me
they put up good specs, come with a 3 yr warranty, but have an extremely low price (especially considering its from crutchfield)
i dont know good that amp is going to sound
the alpine amp is most likely going to be a better amp though
or even a rockford fosgate 201S
but you might want to try the us acoustics, i think crutchfield has some type of 30 day trial period, i could be mistaken though
