Anyone happy with Amazon Prime. Looks like (not sure if there is a start up fee?) 80.00 yearly & going up. Worth it with Netflix or should Amazon be better than ? Or both ? With Roku unit.... Anyone tell me what charge are around would be helpful. We looked online & getting idea's TIA..

We cancelled our Netflix subscription once we picked up the Amazon Prime functionality on the Roku.
Netflix's selection seems to be on a whim and not as broad as it used to be.
Amazon on the other hand...well Jeff Bezos doesn't want anyone outdoing him...not even the US Government (THE DUDE HAS DRONES!!!)"Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

I finally got a Smart TV about 5 months ago and was excited to be able to finally stream movies directly to the TV.
I joined Netflix a few days after getting the TV...and cancelled Netflix an hour later after realizing what a poor selection of movies it has available.
I have not yet joined Amazon Prime but will probably do so as I have been streaming movies individually (no plan) from Amazon for the past few months. Amazon definitely has a much bigger and broader selection of movies than Netflix.
Unfortunately the cost of Amazon Prime just went up from $79 to $99 annually but, in addition to the movie streaming service, it also includes free 2-day shipping on items sold by Amazon so, imho, it is still a pretty good deal. -
Thanks all. We are going to pick up Amazon. Netflix has been good to us & its cheap. We only had internet & Netflix before adding the Roku3 (which we like) so to add Amazon at a billing once a year payment is a great option. If we find were not using Netflix we can drop it @ any time. Still open to feedback about it , as signing up tonight. Plan on reviewing more. Thanks again, Randy..

Used both Amazon and Netflix for a couple of months before feeling like they had much of the same content. Dropped Netflix mostly because of the Amazon Primes benefit of 2 day shipping. Not using a Roku and now on the fence since Amazon came out with the Fire yesterday. Also been tempted to check out Redbox streaming service which includes several DVD/BR movie each month. But did see that the Fire did not have Redbox while Roku does.

Netflix doesn't just pull things willy nilly. They have many, many very complex licensing agreements. My bet is because a new "24" is coming soon Netflix was required to pull it from streaming. It happened to me with Lost when they have the full box set forsale during the Holidays. It happened with Dexter also. Of course there are times when they pull something because it's not performing and they need room for new content.
Don't always project your anger at Netflix, you need to be angry with the money grabbing distribution chain and their ultimate goal of maximizing absolute $$$.

P.s. I'm not saying that this is true in every case, but many times it's the way the licensing is set up. Perhaps Amazon's current licensing is newer and better than Netflix for this particular show or bundle of shows."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. I have had Netflix for 8 years and have never once wanted for more content. For $7.99/month no one should be complaining. You aren't going to get access to everything for that kind of cheap fee.

^^^^ Agree thats why i said we are going to keep Netflix. 5 years of great service/price. 24 was outbid by Amazon is what i understood. For myself to add Amazon at a year/monthly amount its not a bad option...

We have Netflix, Hulu Plus and, through my daughter's account, Amazon Prime. Each one has it's own merits, and it just depends on what you like to watch.
None of them have very good recent movies. Netflix is best for TV series, but it never has any episodes from the current season. It's usually about 2 yrs. behind, unless the series is complete and no longer running. It's nice not having any commercials and being able to watch any episode in their library. There are tons of movies, just not a lot of blockbusters, and because there are so many movies available, lots of good ones get lost in the mix. Netflix has some pretty good original series also.
I recently read a story on "The top 15 Netflix movies you never heard of" or something to that effect. I checked them all out and enjoyed more than half of them. And they were right, I hadn't heard of most of them. (Check out Jack Black in "Bernie", it's different)
Amazon Prime is similar, but with fewer movie and TV choices, but they do occasionally have a more recent season of a TV show available before Netflix does. For instance, they had Downton Abbey season 3 long before Netflix did (not sure if they have it now, didn't check). The advantages to AP over Netflix used to be the price, but it's about even now, as well as the free shipping on some items. Also, a lesser known feature of AP is that you can get a ebook from them each month if you own a Kindle. The selection isn't awesome but I guess it depends on your taste in literature.
Hulu Plus is mainly for recent TV shows. It will show episodes of some current TV shows the same week they air. If you don't have cable, like me, it's a decent option if you like their lineup, but most of the shows on it weren't on my watch list, so we are dropping it this month. Oh, and most of their TV shows include short commercials. One thing I did like about it, was it's Criterion movie collection. It's huge and it consists of a lot of movies you won't find on Netflix. But the TV shows can be annoying. They don't keep a full lineup of the current season of the shows they carry. You might, for instance, want to watch Arrow and find only episodes 4, 6, 9, 12, 13, 14 available (just hypothetical, I didn't check lately).
I didn't sign up for Redbox but checked out their movies a bit. I thought they were similar to AP. The only thing Redbox has going for itself that is better than the other services, is the 4 free DVD rentals each month. If you rent from Redbox regularly, it almost pays for itself. However, it looks like it's only DVD's, not bluray and not many on this site would want a DVD over a bluray, I assume.

Wow, Americans complaining about Netflix content. You should see what crap we get in Canada - Canada requires 20% Canadian content, and since it's nonexistent, Netflix just reduces American/other world content. Anyway, I am paying $28/year extra for a VPN service. It lets me switch/mask IP to any country in the world, so now we watch American, Canadian and UK Netflix, all of which have different content.Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

^^^^ not sure anyone is complaining . We just got to season 7 on a series & Netflix no longer has it. Think the Mrs's wants to keep watching it-as she watched it the other day & went to watch it next day & its gone ! So thought maybe asking other what they thought. I think everyone can pick different things about each,if they really did there homework. Prices arent bad on any of them if your gonna use them. That VPN service sounds interesting..

Personally, I'd rather Netflix charge me $50 a month and have basically unlimited content with new movies and shows, much the way Spotify and MOG work with music.
