I prefer the 9's over the 15's, so I'd say no.

Yes. Go get them. The LSi 15s sound like a big speaker because they are. I prefer their sound over the LSi 9.

Nice score if you can get them! Don't wait too long.

I think you should buy them, and as you leave throw a molotov cocktail into the HT area and scream "Losers!"
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Will my B&K 5125 do them any justice till I get some real power behind them? If I do make the leap I'll sell the nines in here. I'm gussing I could get around 575 or beter on Ebay for them. I'd probaly letm go for 475+ sh. Big decision. hmmmm?

Russ, just curious why do you like the 9's over the 15's?

It really doesn't matter, does it?

I don't think woof in the 15's is up to par with the midbass drivers. Yes, there is more low end, but not of the quality I expected compared to the other drivers used in the LSi series. I also prefer the midrange reproduction, with the different crossover points in the 9's.

The 9's seem more effortless than the 15's, for lack of a better term. Easier to place, no 'fixed' vertical height, easier to drive. For most, who are going to do powered subs anyway, the extra woof in the 15 isn't really needed. There is a valid argument for 2ch music listening, but imo, the 9 sounds better regardless.

    Cheers,

    PM,

The 15s aren't really that much harder to drive than the LSi 9. Both four ohm speakers. Your AV5125 does 5 channels 185 watts/channel into 4 ohm right? Not a problem for now.

They're the best thing I've heard come out of Polk's factory. Make sure you put them with everything LSi... i.e. LSiC, LSiFX and or LSi9's. Life gets quite expensive at that point.

I've tried the LSi15s with various amp configurations and I'd suggest trying one with a high damping factor in the 200 watt into 4 ohm range. I read a pro reviewer's impressions (forget which one) and he had briefly suggested that the 8" woofers on the LSi15s were quite demanding to drive well. There was also another review I read from an English magazine that didn't like the speakers because of a problem they perceived of getting a cohesive sound from the four-drivers on each speaker.

I tried biamping with a Rotel RMB-1075 (damping factor 180) and biamping with a B&K 7270 Series II (damping factor 400). I then tried just biwiring with each. Either configuration produced sound that just didn't seem cohesive to me, almost like the woofers weren't tightly controlled enough and were producing loose, somewhat slappy bass. The midrange and highs were good though. I added a subwoofer (Polk PSW450) and ran them high passed for a while until I could figure out what was going on with the speakers. I then tried out a Parasound Halo A23 amp (damping factor 800) and it makes the drivers on the speakers seem to work better together. My other potential choice would have been a Rotel RB-1080, which has a higher damping factor, costs a little more, but doesn't have the variable gain control the Halo amp has. Because of my room configuration I always have a 2 decibel drop in sound from any speaker used as the right channel and my Rotel preamp doesn't have a balance control.

So, what I'd suggest is that adding power above 200 watts into the 4 ohm load isn't worthwhile--I was running 760 watts into each speaker when biamping with my B&K amp and it didn't help them. The performance seems quite a bit better with the 200 watt Halo amp. Check the damping factor on a good 2 channel amp. Biamping doesn't seem to do much for the LSi15s in my experience.
