Polk PSW110..the little wonder that does :-)

After owning multiple subs over the years ( JBL, Infinity,Velo..even the recent BIC F12), I find that this little wonder is the best balance of bass accuracy and slammitude. After having to part with the F12, I didn't think that this one could take it's place. I don't know what happened between replacing it with the F12 for a time, fixing it and bringing back into service after parting with the F12, but this psw110 in combo with my pioneers sound absolutely fantastic!! It slams with the intensity of the F12, but with sound accuracy!! More so than the F12..which just slammed lol. My movies and TV shows IMO sound better now :-) Cudos to Polk :-)

Very Interesting!, Will have to find one to listen to!
It was interesting to myself as well! IMO any sub can sound great when properly placed and tuned;-). Since owning the pioneers, I've come to learn what bass QUALITY is...and the Polk has it. Quality over quantity :-).My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV -
The PSW 110 does not hit as LOW as the BIC or the Polk PSW 505. But it might be tighter bass that you're hearing rather than more bass.
I haven't heard this sub, but it's a smaller, lighter sub with a 10" driver vs. a 12" and sometimes the smaller driver in a good design will sound more musical, faster, etc.
Enjoy!

I haven't heard the 505, but I'm assuming it has a similar sound to the BIC. You're right about the bass being tighter...however when I compared the BIC to the 110 when playing movies (pacific rim, dark knight, inception) I was surprised to find the 110 to hit the lows as the BIC did..similar extension IMO.I never said the 110 had more bass, just more defined ( musical as some would put it ). To me, the 110 is a well- designed sub...and it will shake the walls lol!
P.S. Thank you cnh..I am enjoying it :-)My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV -
Hey all. I got an opportunity to pick up another psw110 from a local craigslist seller for about 100. It's been barely used and in like new condition. If I was to get it, how would I set it up? I was planning on putting it on the right side of my TV stand ( got my current 110 on the left side of the stand). Should I set the phase to 180 on the second one?? Any thoughts??My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV

You're going to, literally, have to play that phasing by EAR. Set both up and experiment with the phasing till you get what sounds like the tightest, cleanest bass, to you! If it were me, I'd have the subs on the left and right like towers (in a front sound stage) and see how that works. If your receiver only has ONE sub out, just get a Y splitter and run the two leads to their respective subs.
Have fun!

Oh i see. I think somewhere i read that if you run two subs to put one to 180 phase and the other to 0...cant remember were i read it tho.Ya I was thinking of arranging them like that...one on each side. Thanks CNH :-)My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV

What do y'all think about stacking subs? Unfortunately, the space I was gunna put the other psw110 is not an option anymore...my other half ;-) Anyways, any input would be appreciated. I tried stacking subs once and the weight reinforced the subs coupling to the floor. The result was unwanted vibration transmitted into the rooms structure, forcing a volume dial down which also distracted from the HT experience. Unstacking and decoupling yielded the response I was looking for. Your tastes may vary.

Haswell has a point, but I believe you could alleviate that problem with some damping materials like Subdudes, etc. Isolating/absorbing any vibration from the sub on top.
I have seen guys stack subs successfully.

Felipe - Setting two identical subs to opposite phase will cause a cancellation of the bass waves. Unless you have a very large room and the subs are in opposite front/back corners, the phase should be the same. I would play with it, but I doubt that the best performance would be opposite polarity.
As far as set up, if your reciever doesn't have two sub outs, then just use a RCA splitter. I have several Audioquest splitters that I purchased when doing a similar set up. PM me if your interested, we can work out a great price. I'm not using them anymore now that I have a SMS-1 with three sub outs.
I have definately found that multiple subs are best for my ears/room. Going with identical multiple subs is ideal (vs. my setup).Parasound HCA-2003A & 2205A

Nice to read a positive report about that sub.

Much thanks for the info guys:-) Mufsoman thanks for the offer, but I have a monster cable y splitter, so I'll try that first. Once I get the 110, I'll set it up and let y'all know how it goes ;-). Well guys...I wasn't able to get the psw110..someone else offered more for it, and of course they sold it to that person:-(. Bummer...
On a side note, does any one have experience with pioneer' s sub..the sw mk2?? Its on sale for a Lil over 100 rite now. How would two of these compare to one psw110??My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV -
Felipe, I was going to recommend that you keep an eye out on newegg's website for the PSW505, but better yet, check out Polk's online ebay site for the 505.
http://stores.ebay.com/Polk-Audio-Direct/Subwoofers-/_i.html?_fsub=160111519
$204.99 with free shipping, direct from Polk.
That's about $40 more than the PSW110; very good deal, IMO.Sal Palooza -
Felipe- where are you located? I have a PSW 110 not being used that needs a new home. Shipping would probably not be feasible to make the deal worth it, but maybe if you are somewhat close we could work something out.
Plus one on the 505 from Polk direct or newegg with free shipping, it's hard to compete with that deal. I really like the looks of the 110, but just not enough output for me.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -
Hey TNHNDYMAN, thank you for the offer, but I live in Florida..a little far from TN lol. The 505 is a nice sub..jut not a fan of the rear vent. I like the fact that the 110 has a down firing port...not as critical for placement. My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV

No worries. My mother has a vacation condo in the Cape Coral/ Ft. Myers area and is down there 4 or 5 times a year. If that's more in the neighborhood, maybe I could have her take it down on her next trip.
I don't think the rear port would be too critical as far as placement. I've got a HSU VTF mkII that has much more output than the 505 and I have it within 8" of the back wall with no apparent problems. FWIW, the psw110 is a good sub...especially when its used with good floor standers;-) I switched the bs22s with the fs52s from my 2ch setup. I thought I sounded great with the bookshelfs, but now it sounds awesome with the floorstanders. The low end is smoother and more even...better blended. Just my two cents ;-)My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV
