Starting to annoy me

you mean like at Sams Club where you pay and then must have an employee check your receipt and then go through your cart to double check that you didn't steal anything in the 12' to the door...I HATE THAT
Yep. I don't appreciate, as a customer, being treated like a thief. I won't stand for it. They have a right to ask me not to return, and I have a right to spend my money somewhere else, that won't go thru MY stuff as I exit. If you suspect me of shoplifting---call the damn police, otherwise you're not seeing my receipt.
They do this crap simply because customers ALLOW it. Once I pass that cash register, and I have paid---that stuff belongs to ME.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
The issue with checking bags after checkout is that there really isn't thing to steal on the way out of the store. It is almost like they are verifying the cashier did not skip any items instead of shoplifting. If so then they need to find another method to check their employees.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

I don't stop either. I think Sam's, since it's a membership-based business, can legally stop you - but I'm not sure.

Exactly, the customer pays for employee incompetence. I haven't seen anyone at the doors of our Walmart in quite awhile, I think numerous customer complaints put an end to it. Arizonans don't have much patience with issues like that.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Nope Wal-Mart deleted that job and those that did it were put to use as janitor's or cashiers if they couldn't stand for long.
Part of their cost cutting measures. Same thing here in Illinois. -
They check everyone's carts at costco and sam's, so it doesn't make me feel singled out as being a thief.
To the offended, did you opt out of the scanners at the airports and opt in for the pat down/full body cavity search? That's the violation of rights i object to.. -

Walmart will need to decide if they can or cannot live without my business. Department stores have operated for decades without checking customer receipts at the exit.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

I think it's a poor business practice, others can tolerate what they want to. I don't fly anymore for a number of reasons; being herded like cattle, talked to like a child, nickle & dimed to death on fees, late flights, no smoking, aholes who bring mega-baggage on the plane, inconviencing everyone else,...the list goes on and on.
Having said that, airport flight security and checking a receipt at Walmart isn't exactly an apples/apples comparison.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

I will go on the record saying that I do not shop at Walmart for ethical reasons, but it is a business, and losing 3 billion dollars is a lot of money no matter how much you make...seems like they have the right so see if you actually paid for what's in the cart.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

To answer a few questions, first I do believe this is a store specific issue. I've been to both HD and Lowes where they try to get people to use these self check out lines, and it usually fails. Like a particular HD that tried not opening the regular cash registers until 9:00 AM. Took about 2 weeks for them to figure out that contractors are about 90% of their business at that time, and those guys aren't going to check themselves out when they can drive 2 minutes and buy at the competition.
Why would I take the time to look for the manager to complain that there are no check out aisles open? The best way to send a message of dissatisfaction is to go somewhere else.
The way I look at it is really simple. If you have a building, and you sell stuff to the general or specialized public, you are a retail establishment. A manager or owner can run that business as he or she sees fit. If your particular store has self check out only, I will go elsewhere. If you give customers a choice, but decide to only open self check out, I'll simply go elsewhere. You want my business, simple pay somebody to complete the transaction. I may agree to use a self check out if at the end of the transaction there is a 2 or 3 percent discount at the end, and it is shown on the receipt. I don't work for your store.
Sorry, but I'm just that type of person. I personally don't belong to any of the "store clubs", so I have no experience with them. I will say that the last time I went to Fry's they prevented me from leaving the store to check my receipt. I went straight to the return area, and basically told them where they could store their stuff for the rest of eternity. I really will not accept anybody questioning my integrity. If one of those stupid rf scanners goes off, I'll usually let them inspect my purchases if they wish, but that's the exception.
The day this happened, I went to Lowes, and the place was crowded. They had 8 cash registers, 2 contractor registers, and 2 garden registers open. There were no fewer than 4 people in each line. I had to pass all of them on my quest for stuff. I have to deal with people every day, and I run into people who are upset all the time. I actually think that they people in the office save those people for me sometimes, but I can't prove it. I don't claim to be able to make every customer happy, that simply isn't possible.
I was just beginning to feel that instead of setting aside a couple of hours a week to pick up various items locally I should just give up and give Mr. Bezos my business, and have it delivered. My moto for retail establishments is simple: I don't shop at Walmart, because I really hate those stupid "smiley faces", and I don't go through self check out lines. I really don't care if an employee scans the crap I just bought or not.
