Audiogon Offers

Can anyone tell me how it works when you make an offer on Audiogon? If you make an offer, do you need to wait till the full time of the listing is finished to hear back from the seller, or does the seller normally respond immediately when the offer is made? Thanks

    You just wait till seller replies, not a dib's system we have here but,, you are at the mercy of the seller.

    Whether you hear back from the seller or not, and/or the time it takes for the seller to respond, depends on a lot of things. If the seller thinks it's a lowball offer he may never respond and just let the offer expire. You never know how busy the seller is either, so that factors into it. We're starting a weekend also so if he likes to party with his friends or is busy with family or whatever you never know.

    Some guys are just snobby and dont even respond. What you should do is make your offer and then follow through with a polite message to the seller kindly asking him to deny it if he is not willing to accept.

    There is an actual time limit of 48hrs for the seller to respond or your offer is automatically denied (expire). The seller may not respond if:
    1) He hasn't had a chance to and is within the time limit...
    2) You gave him a low ball offer and you are just being ignored...Which then, in turn, your offer will automatically expire after 48hrs...and you are wasting your time waiting to get a response.
    3) Maybe he is just waiting to see if he gets better offers during this timeframe...which can mean bad news for you...

    If you login you can check the actual time left and you can also send him a private message...

    That is how I understand it to work...

    Thanks guys. I'm watching several different amps, one of which is on Audiogon. I would like to make an offer, but the listing time frame is out till mid April. So I don't want to make an offer and not hear back, then purchase another amp only to find out a couple weeks from now that I'm still on the hook for Audiogon amp that I made the offer to.

    So it sounds like if I do make an offer, even if I don't hear back from the seller, my offer expires in 48 hrs. Cool. Thanks again

    It means you are on the hook for 48 hours, so if you buy something else in the meantime and the seller accepts your offer within the 48 hours you are obligated to follow thru with the purchase.
