Driver for LS90

Just discovered that the surround has separated from the cone about 3" on one LS90 driver. The adhesive failed.

It probably could be re-glued, but I assume the entire surround would need to be removed to do it right.

Anyone have a LS90 driver?

    Polk still stocks them. $48 ea IIRC and free shipping if you mention you're a forum member.

    I noticed today that the surround has separated from another woofer cone due to adhesive failure. I assume the surround could be completely removed and re-glued, similar to re-foaming a woofer. The surround easily peels away from the cone and frame. Polk's method of adhering the surrounds was not very robust on these woofers. I assume it's a matter of time before they all fail.

    Polk says they will repair the 2 drivers with the surround adhesive failure.

    Got the repaired drivers back a couple days ago. Big thanks to Gary and Freeman in Polk CS!

    They look very nice. Both the surrounds and dustcaps were re-glued.

    The suspension is very stiff on the repaired drivers compared to non-repaired. Not sure why re-gluing the surrounds and dustcaps would make the suspensions so stiff. I always assumed that the spider and surround properties determine the suspension stiffness, and those did not change with the re-gluing.

    They probably installed new surrounds, hence the stiffness.

    F1, that may be true.

    After closer inspection, the surrounds do look "newer" than the ones on the other original drivers. I originally figured that they just cleaned and reused the original surrounds.

    I think Freeman also used different cones, as the cones look more like the ones in my MW7010 replacement drivers. Hell, he might have even reglued or replaced the spider too. They have a strong odor, adhesive I presume, that reminds me of Windex.

    It's surprising to me that Polk would have individual surrounds, cones, and perhaps even spiders available as "parts", when they also sell full replacement drivers. Very cool that they have the capability and talent to repair 20+ year old drivers. That has to be rare in this industry.
