Need a good TV for gaming

I'm looking for a good tv suited for gaming in the 40" to 42" size range. I don't care about movie playback or smart features, just want something I can hook into my gaming PC and go. I don't want to go any larger than 42", I have a 47" now and it's too big.
Price isn't a factor, I'll pay whatever I need in order to get the best TV for my needs.
Any recommendations?

The Samsung TVs seem to get favorable ratings, but I really don't think I can bring myself to buy another Samsung after the horrible experience with the last one...ugh

Do you have the horse power under the hood to push 4k resolutions from your gaming PC? If not, I suspect any quality 1080p TV with at least a 120hz refresh rate would do. My PC is hooked directly to my 5 year old Sony LCD (1080p, 120hz, 46"), and everything looks lovely still.2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

I can't really help much, other than I had a semi-bad experience with Samsung CS as well. Bought a $2000tv, they're best model in the size at that time. 1 yr and 2 mo later, it broke, 2 mo out of warranty. I guess technically i should have been SOL, the warranty was over, but after quite a bit of arguing, they fixed it for free. I'm not sure if that's considered a good experience (hey, they fixed my tv out of warranty!) or a bad experience (hey, i spent $2000 on a tv for it to break 2 mo out of warranty).
On the other hand, I've heard excellent things from Panasonic's CS regarding their TVs.
But I'm not an expert on TV's themselves. Good luck.

I was very vocal about my Samsung experience here and elsewhere, had a 60" plasma that was 1 week out of warranty when it broke and they absolutely refused to do anything for me, even after talking to several people. A manager actually had the stones to tell me "You should have called us while it was still under warranty". After that and a couple other incidents I removed anything with Samsung branding from my home.
IF I were to go Samsung this time I'll definitely do the Best Buy or Costco warranty as I've had good luck with both of those over the years. -

I would love a good Sony 40" TV, but seems they only carry the smaller sizes in their really good models now overseas, really bummed because that's where I originally thought I'd end up.

Some of the larger and higher end Sony Bravia sets in Game mode seem to have super low input lag...but are not cheap. Some of the 40-42" Samsung, LG, and Vizio look good also: http://www.displaylag.com/input-lag-database/
Myself, I really liked the previous Samsung Plasma I had for gaming.2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2 -
XBR is Sony's top of the line, but I think that's limited to their 4K sets these days. You might be able to find a good XBR non-4K TV on Amazon or something. If not, I think the W series is your next best bet for a newer model from Sony that's good for gaming.
A buddy of mine has a 55" 4k XBR from Sony, and I didn't see any input lag on his PS4, but I didn't play very long on it.
If you narrow down to a couple of finalists, I'd also recommend wading through the thread that is dedicated to those models in the AVS Forums. I read 3x 100+ page threads prior to buying my Sony several years ago. I'm glad I did, as I feel like it helped me get the best bang for my buck.
Edit:
This actually looks like a good candidate for a cheap price:

But I wouldn't pull the trigger until I've read through the AVS forums for that model.2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

I like that Sony, although there's really not much information on it yet.

Yea, you're right. I don't see anything on AVS beyond:

It's a real bummer that Sony doesn't appear to sell their higher end line in smaller screen sizes here in the US, I may look in to ordering one of those from the UK...

Went and looked at a bunch tonight, didn't really find anything that I fell in love with. It's just getting harder and harder to find a really good high end TV in the 40" - 42" size...
-
I have a 47" now that has a superb picture, the problem is it's just too big given how close I am to it. The problem that I'm running into is that I can't find anything in the smaller size that has as good a picture as the 47" I have now. I want smaller size, but am not willing to take a hit in quality to get it.
I've got to be the only person on earth looking to actually downsize their TV at this point... -
John, I looked at the link and that monitor only has HDMI 1.4 . I thought perhaps 4K sets run HDMI 2.0 ?

How apout the Panasonic Viera series. They seem to be good.
Here is a review. They are larger screen models but you can track down a smaller size screen from the same line.
