Installed No-Rez on back and sides, Removed from sides

I finally got around to installing No-Rez in my SDA 2B-TLs. I actually did this a few weeks ago but havent had time to post.
After re-reading the old posts on No Rez, Sonic Barrier, Black Hole, etc., I came to the following conclusions: 1) dont use too much or itll suck the life out of the speakers; 2) dont crowd the mid-woofers. I was still debating whether to install strips on the back wall only or back and sides. I decided to start with four 4 x 8 strips in each speaker one behind each mid-woofer and one on each side. I installed the side strips a couple of inches back from the drivers.
After I put them back together, I immediately noticed an improvement in midrange clarity but where did all my bass go?? I didn't use much and I still managed to suck the life out of my speakers! They sounded clear but very polite.
I opened them up again and removed the side strips. Much better!! The midrange clarity is still there but the punch is back. Compared to where I started (no No-Rez), bass is tighter but just as punchy. Some passages sounded a little boomy before but now the boom is gone. Mid range is considerably more clear. The improvements are noticeable at low volume and really pronounced at higher volumes.
This is one of the easiest tweaks Ive ever done other than doing it twice. Highly recommended for back walls of 2Bs.

Good on ya! I used Black Hole in my 2.3TL's and heard the same results you describe. It really is a cheap, high bang for the buck tweak."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

Stew, I had the very same effect and conclusion using B-H5 and was the only mechanical mod that I questioned. It was an aquired listening experiance because I had thought I liked the boomyness of the stock cabinets. It did change the sound that dramatcally. I did leave the strips in after many hours and came to the conclusion that it was more refined and still got the bass I wanted. All polyfill was rerolled and put back and I only used 3" wide x 8'' long strips that did not impead into the passive cavity. No sound deadening treatments was put on any side walls.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

I used 3 inch x 8 inch strips as well. I'm not sure why I said 4 inch in my original post.SDA 2B-TL (Sonicap/Solen/Mills, Erse Super Q, Rings, Spikes, No-Rez)

When changing the large inductor and the Tweeters in my new 2.3's i noticed the poly fill crammed in behind all mid/woofers and tweeters with nothing behind the PR. Do I understand correctly to remove poly place this product in strategic strips directly behind mid/woofs then pack poly back in? How thick is the material described for strips and good supplier to purchase from? -

You're correct on placement... affix the damping material to the back of the speaker cabinet and then put the polyfill back between it and the drivers.
I'm not sure about the No Rez, but the Blackhole 5 is 1.375" thick (from Sonic Craft's website). They sell it in large 24" x 27" sheets for $69.95, but right now they are running a 20% off sale.

Being from Iowa I can't help you w/ the B-H5 because I got sheets and scraps from a C/L ad for $18. The Dynamat was a great find for free. I scoured some auto resto places and they do not use the stuff any more. They said try car audio installer places and sure enough I found a place near me and asked them. The reply was we just did a trunk and have scraps laying around and they gave it to me. Not much is needed for both products and they are cut up so one doesn't need full sheets.

It's cool that they show the Blackhole and NoRez side by side on that page. I like the cosmetics of the Blackhole a lot better. -

Thanks for the info. I'll check fleebay for scraps or place an order for new. does it matter if the poly fill is actually contacting the mid/woof baskets and i saw one club member indicating use of the resonant material behind the PR. -
The poly fill is against the back of the drivers on mine. Don't put any damping (dampening?) material in the PR cavity. Do a search and you'll find where a few people tried that with bad results.
I have most of a sheet of No Rez left over. PM me if interested.SDA 2B-TL (Sonicap/Solen/Mills, Erse Super Q, Rings, Spikes, No-Rez)
